Real Push email - yeah!

Using Chatteremail - and having my email auto-forwarded (at the server level) to my ($19.95 a year) Fastmail.fm account - which is an IMAP account. This account pushes email to me all day - FAST!, and when I reply I reply as if I'm using my normal account.

This is very nice! I have had a couple of resets - but I suspect I tried doing things all at once that I should'nt of.

The only time I dont get email is when I'm on the phone - but as soon as I'm off the phone the email arrives.

Warning - better have unlimited Data plan if you are going to do this - and a good spam blocker.

For reference:
Unlocked GSM Treo 650
Lastest version of Chatteremail (no affiliation, in "free trial" mode and very pleased so far).
Country Fido - locked to Rogers.

Peace.

ChatterEmail is great! I use it for 4 domains and personal email and I love it!

I did a review over on ChatterEmails forums of how to setup your own IMAP server so you don't have to pay fastmail and also let you setup rules and filtering, but I didn't have any takers. Glad you are happy with your $20.00 a year solution.

What are you doing to make Chatter restart? As soon as I removed it from the SD Card and installed it to RAM I have had 0 resets from chatter.

For reference:
Unlocked Treo 650 (Cingular Branded)
ChatterEmail v1.0.6rc7 (Do NOT install to the SD card)
T-Mobile T-Zones $4.99

I was going to try to do that but the only problem is my Yahoo account gets drilled with Spam and there isn't a way to put a spam blocker on it before it gets forwarded. I liked the fastmail account and how it dropped it right onto my Treo...but I couldn't deal with all the spam I got (over 50 a day). Now I'm just accessing my yahoo account via POP at 30 min. intervals. Not as nice, but I don't get the spam. Any ideas?

I came up with a very easy way to filter email using rules but there was no interest over on ChatterEmails forums so I didn't come up with a HowTo.

That's cool and all, but the Spam filtering Yahoo does already is pretty **** good as I don't receive many messages to my inbox. Most are just dumped in the Bulk Mail folder.

I wish there was a way to forward emails to a fastmail account AFTER they are scanned and filtered by Yahoo. I assume I could probably do that with Outlook, but then I'd have to get some spam filter from somewhere and then train it to work correctly. I just don't know if that would work correctly.

Can you filter through outlook/outlook express, then forward? Not sure if that's feasible...it would seem that EVERYTHING would get forwarded to fastmail and then I'm screwed because it would all miss the filter. Maybe my concept ideas are screwed...oh well. I'll live with my POP access every half hour or so.

Ahh I understand.

I use Yahoo Mail very little, but what you have suggested is a good thing. I think Yahoo should add the option to only check the inbox and not just all new mail. Maybe send them an email with your suggestion.

As for my way what you would do is setup an email client (Outlook adds crap to messages and won't work properly) to check your Yahoo mail. Then using rules moves messages that were tagged as spam to a junk folder. Next rule would be to forward any remaining mail to your fastmail account. Not sure how yahoo pop works as I have NEVER used it, but that’s the general idea.

See if you can get Yahoo to auto-forward your mail (from yahoo - not from your computer recieving and then forwarding) to another service like fastmail.fm. Then you will be able to do this using Chatteremail.

BTW I get all my email scanned for spam/virus by Postini.....it goes there first - then to my POP mail server - then autoforwarded to fastmail.fm then pushed to me!

I just set myself up with Chatter and Fastmail. My primary email is a gmail account, and I get lots of spam everyday due to my university email that I have forwarded to my account. Since I got it up and running, I have recieved some spam in my gmail account, but it has NOT been forwarded to my fastmail account, thus I did not recieve any spam on my treo! I guess gmail won't forward emails it considers spam, which works out great for me.
