Does anyone know how to write apps that can call functions on the phones hardware (eg camera, flash, ext lcd screen, keypad light, etc)?

someone wrote a program called ispy which used the camera as a motion detector.

Ever since I got this phone, I've been wanting to make that LED function as a flashlight.

Anyway, if anyone has info on this stuff, please let me know.
