APN Login In Help

Here are the basics. I have a 7100t running OS 4.0 through T-Mobile. Up until a day ago I had one SIM in the device and ran both Verichat and Bbspell without any problems. I had the APN settings (i.e. wap.voicestream.com, username and password) configured to that SIM’s account.

I finally decided to consolidate phone and BB. I added BB service to the SIM that was just used as a phone (also a T Mobile account) and popped it into the current 7100t. Email and web browsing occurred almost immediately. However, with the old SIM all the 3rd party apps ran fine, the new SIM they don’t work at all. I updated the APN info to accommodate for new passwords connected with the new SIM however I can’t get Verichat or BBspell to connect. Verichat just goes on and on trying to connect and BBspell gives me an error message “unable to open connection”.

That said I called T Mobile, spoke to the BB support group and they told me that you are not supposed to enter any info in the APN user name and password (I find this strange as I had that info entered with the old SIM and it worked fine—incidentally the support rep told me that was impossible). I tried it without username and SIM (still didn’t work).

I am thinking that maybe I have the wrong username and password for my APN settings. Is this correct:

APN username = Tel Number
Password = Password I use to access the TMO website.

Is this wrong? suggestions?

Can anyone help me here? To recap same device, same pin, same service provider—new SIM from same provider—no 3rd party apps working?

Thanks!!

PS: Apologies to those who read this at Blackberryforums.com but I got no response there so I'm trying here.

From Mark's Configuring Internet on a BB sticky:

"T-Mobile - Now has TCP/IP; No MDS hosting needed
Go to Options->TCP (or Tools->TCP)
APN: wap.voicestream.com
Username: Your T-MOBILE Username
Password: Your T-MOBILE Password
Note: T-Mobile has fixed the port-blocking issue - see this post for more info. If it still does not work properly, just call T-Mobile (call after Feburary 11th, 2005), and ask them to get the "wap.voicestream.com Internet Access Point Name" added to your BlackBerry account at no extra charge."

Yes I have seen this info and followed it. I just am not sure what my T Mobile User name and password are.

Is the user name my tel number? Is the password the password I have set to enter the TMO website?

Thanks

The T-Mobile username and password is the same data you enter to log in to your http://www.t-mobile.com/bwc/ website.

If your BlackBerry is company-provided (i.e. you don't use the @blackbery.net email address), then you may not have a BWC account, and you will have to access the Internet through MDS instead.

HOWEVER... T-Mobile should usually work with the APN username/password blank. "wap.voicestream.com" should be filled in though.

My username and password fields are blank and mines works just fine. I just have the wap.voicestream.com on the APN line. Did you at least try what they said?

jb12272,

I'm having the same problem, but in reverse! I was on one device, now trying to split to two. My old sim works fine (with voice and BB add-on) and my new sim doesn't (bb only). Not a BES customer, just BWC.

My turn to apologize to those that may see my story twice as well, but I want to include it here just in case. I'll definitely report back if I get Tmobile to fix it somehow.

Since the problem follows the SIM, and many many people have confirmed (including Tmobile, for what that's worth) that you don't need username and password in the APN for Tmobile, the problem seems to be on the account side -- not the device config.

I too have tried combinations of username/password though for troubleshooting (BWC credentials, my tmobile.com credentials, phone number and tmobile.com credentials, etc.).

Here's my story:

Quote:
Net-net of the problem, no BES for me, and I'm having w/ tmobile is I have a new 7290 (and new SIM w/ $29.99 BB Unlim Data) and can't get 3rd party apps (BBToday, IM+, Verichat, Newsclip, ...) to connect with my new SIM, but when I put my old SIM (w/ the 19.99 BB Unlim Add-on) it works just as expected. Frustrating!

Can you guys help me either identify some ports to reference for my "engineering trouble ticket" (or whatever they call it), or offer other hopefully magical phrases to use to describe the problem (or others to talk to)? The 2nd level person today was very nice and open minded, but said he and I got shot down by engineering and can't open a ticket w/o port #'s or more info.

More of the situation:
I used to have (still around) a 7100t that I just don't want to put up with anymore. This device has been working w/ 3rd party apps and open ports fine as soon as I correctly entered the wap.voicestream.com into the APN setting. The SIM/account I've been using on this is what I'll call my OLD SIM. Great screen, just not liking the keyboard and Suretype. So, decided to go the small mobile phone w/ seperate BB device route.

Over the weekend I picked up the new 7290 and setup the new service. I've left the BB add-on on my old sim until I get everything settled.

I've called into 2nd level 3 times now and still haven't moved forward. Nothing kind to say about the weekend support. 2nd time, the guy was very nice and noticed the BB APN wasn't on my new account. Again, wap.voicestream.com is on both accounts, and I've added it to the TCP settings of the 7290 (just like my 7100t).

Still having the same problems. If I swap SIMs between my 7100t and my 7290, what I think seems to be the "port/account problem" follows the SIM.

2nd level today listened and checked both accounts again and can't find anything different as far as what's necessary for data (obviously the voice, hotspot and sms on my old account are differences). But, as I mentioned above, he got shot down trying to open a 3rd level trouble ticket for me.

Help?! Any ideas? I really want to get this working and it sure as heck seems like its on tmobile's side. I'm in the position none of us like, at the mercy of CSR's and Support -- some of which are pulling the "not supported" card. I'm not looking for 3rd party app support, just for the service to be available as it "should". (based on all expectations here, and based on my expectations with my other sim and phone number).

Thanks!

Mark:

Thanks for the feedback. I am sorry that I did not include that piece of info but yes I am using BWC.

Here is the strange thing--I went to change the APN Username and Password to my BWC Username and Password. Entered this info, saved it and then pulled the battery out for a reset as the instructions state. When the 7100 rebooted the old info was still in the APN settings. I retried a couple of times (even tried once where I left Username and Password blank, saved and rebooted) still came up with old username and password (which is probably incorrect.

Any suggestions?
