BenQ is to acquire Siemens' mobile phone division.

Read the Press Release.

That's quite interesting to read. BenQ will also retain branding rights for the next 5 years. They're already present in the German computer sector and market their DVD/portable PC equipment here.

Yeah, it's sad that after 5 years there will be no more cell phones carrying the name Siemens. Since I started to be interested in cell phones, I always liked Siemens ones because of their amazing desingns, features and the ability to do custom patches.
I hope when BenQ takes over the Siemens cell phone division, we will still be able to patch the new phones and I hope they will use the same designers as before, because BenQ phones are just UGLY.

In the US Siemens is almost an exotic brand, couple that with design and it makes them that much more interesting.

Some of the designs Siemens have done have been superb, IMO the SL55 is still the best looking phone I have ever seen (my SX1 is a close second of course). One of the details on both phones that I absolutely love is the mesh grill over the speaker. Too bad on the newer series phones they are going back to a slot or couple of holes. The wire grills were a subtle, yet sophisticated design that really made a huge visual impression on me.

I also like the M65 and S65. The displays are quite large.

i hope the quality stays the same. I have had my m56 for over a year... dropped it in a puddle, accedently threw it in the dryer, stepped on it, and it still works as if I just got it. the thing is built like a rock.

My SX1 has been pretty reliable, hardware-wise. I had some lint from my pocket wedged under the C key and after I accidentally left it outside and watered it the key was freed up. Of course I had a panic attack because I watered my phone! The only way my SX1 is showing it's age is the few scratches and the number keys aren't as responsize as they used to be, but I think again it's lint from my pocket building up.

The only Siemens phone I've had a quality issue with has been my wife's SL65, and it's in the UK now waiting to be delivered to the service centre.
