I am on a Cingular plan and have had the chance to use the Treo 650 a little and I like it, but I am also considering the Imate Jam. Unfortunately there is no way to test out the Jam so I am not sure which smartphone to get.
Has anyone had expericence with both phones? I use Outlook and I know that the Treo will sync with Outlook but I have a feeling that the Jam will work better.
My one concern with the Jam is that like all other MS based phones when you are on the phone it is common to touch the screen inadvertantly with your check and either press buttons or launch programs.
Does anyone have experience with both of these phones? Which do you prefer and why? Does the Jam have better 3rd party software?
Thanks,
Rich

Have you posted on the Pocket PC forum? There are alot of power users over there that swear by the Jam, especially Bengal Boy and Mad Monkey Boy (I think). I personally have never used the Jam as I want a device with a keyboard.
I think the software issue is up for grabs. Both OS's have alot of third party apps available. I have used several Palm devices and several WM devices and think they are both good. Lots of folks would probably disagree - truly a matter of preference. My personal thought is that it is more a matter of hardware. What features are most important to you? Keyboard? Higher res camera?
You might consider buying whichever device you choose from a reputable dealer that would allow returns if you don't like it. And then there is always eBay!

I've owned both an imate jam (US 850 model) and now a Treo 650.
When push comes to shove, the jam is an amazing little phone, however I find ppc software to be lacking for my needs compared to palm. That and that I cannot honestly go back to T9 text input after the treo keyboard.
Some background info here, my needs are essentially a phone with PIM applications, extensibility, PUSH email (not push-to-pop) internet Instant Messaging, and Web browsing. PPC has exchange activesync (sms to the phone, tells it to sync) whereas the treo has chatter ($33, and worth every penny, FULL IMAP client, and true push if your server supports Imap IDLE.)
The only area where the Jam is better is with web browsing, simply because it can render more pages than the treo's built in browser. On the flip side, the Treo supports EDGE, and is easily 2-3 times as fast (data wise that is) than the jam at downloading.
The Jam is marginally smaller than the treo 650. Realistically, only the thinner profile and no antenna nub make a difference, however with the treo you get a sharper, brighter, MUCH nicer screen. (treo 320x320 vs Jam 240x320) the keyboard, and a better camera.
Overall, I can only say that I sold the Jam, and kept the treo.
If you have any other questions, PM or email me.
Hope this helped some.
