okay, I flashed my Cingular Treo 650 this morning w/ the 1.23 firmware and everything went smoothly. so far so good w/ no apparent problems.

I want to share how I flashed my 650 because the instructions I've seen on some sites make this process sound alot harder than what it actually is. be sure to plug your phone into your phone's battery charger prior to doing this. they say that you want to have the hotsync cable AND the charger plugged in at the same time but thats so stupid because how the hell are you going to be able to have both things plugged in at the same time? :rolleyes2

step 1 - obviously you'll need to find the correct firmware for your 650. you obviously dont want to use a Sprint 650 ROM on your Cingular phone. (yes, I know that sounds stupid but........... well, you know.) once you've D/Led the correct firmware (ROM) file, you'll want to extract it.

step 2 - I used an SD card along with an SD card reader with my flashing process so I can assume that so will you. first you need to format the card inside your 650. then take the card out of the phone and insert it into your SD card reader. there's going to be a folder named "PALM'. you need to rename that folder to anything else besides PALM. I just named it ONE.

step 3 - you'll then look at where you extracted the ZIP firmware file that you D/Led and extracted earlier. the extraction created a folder called "PALM'. open that folder and then you'll find two other files. one is is a folder called "DeviceCustomizer" and then there's a PRC file called "start". take those two files and copy/paste then onto your SD card. do NOT put those two files inside the folder thats on already on the card. just put them onto the card itself so you'll have two folders and the "start" PRC file.

step 4 - now take your 650 and do a hard reset on it. just take your stylis and push in the reset button thats in the battery compartment while pressing down on the on/off button at the same time. now let go of the reset button on the back of the phone but keep pressing the on/off button. this will do a hard reset and will bring the phone back to day one. after you have reset the phone, take the SD card from your card reader and insert it back into the phone. the phone will then see the "start" PRC file on the card and that will begin the flashing process.

-after that, just follow the instructions on the screen and everything will fall into place. the phone will reset itself a couple of times so just let it do its deal and dont do or press anything until the phone tells you to. I was told that this flashing process usually takes anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes but thats bull because mine only took like maybe three minutes tops.

-after the flashing has finished, pull out the SD card and insert it into the SD card reader again. this time you'll want to delete the "PALM" folder and the "start" PRC file from the card. after that, take the only folder thats left on the card and rename it back to "PALM". then reinsert the card back into the phone. now reset the phone by just pushing the reset button in the battery compartment. and thats it, you've officially flashed the phone.

*on a side note*

again, I used the 1.23 on my Cingular locked 650 and I havent had any problems yet today. I dont really know if this newer firmware is supposed to be any better than what I had before (firmware 1.05) but whats done is done. hopefully the official release will be out sometime soon and I'll do this again.

I hope this info helps someone out. I tried to make it as simple as possible.
