5600 work in UK London Area?

Does anyone have experience with the 5600 outside of North America? I understand the phone is sim locked but Cingular has roaming agreements in London.

Cingular rep says it will not work outside of US. If that is the case, then why have the 3rd band?

My concern is that with only the 850/1800/1900 bands covered, it will not work well in London, which I travel to frequently.

I have read wonderful things about the phone and would buy it if I were confident someone had the North American model 5600 (not C500) and used it in London.

Can anyone help?

Well, according to the Cingular world website, they have agreements in the UK with O2, Vodafone and T-Mobile.

Both O2 and Vodafone say they use 1800 in the major cities and T-Mobile says its 1800 nationwide, so it looks like you should be fine.

Go here than click on UK to see the roaming partners. http://www.cingular.com/customer_service/roaming_gen

I've used my SMT5600 in the UK and in Spain without major issues. Coverage is London was OK. Spotty in some areas but still very usable. Spain was much more consistent if you chose Amena as the carrier, they are an 1800mhz only carrier.
It did not work in Japan at all.

Thanks for the responses. I have gone ahead and ordered two of them. One for me and one for my wife. I just hope the phone is no more complex than a remote from the early 80's or else she is going to have a hard time using it.

They are a piece of cake to use. Make sure you enable international roaming in your accounts, you have to call customer service. This feature is not turned on by default.
