Motorola sucks and mpx220 sucks!

About few days ago, my supposely $300 phone wouldn't charge anymore. So I tried 2 regular charger and a car changer and it still doesn't work. So I try on usb cable and it charges.
I call up cingular repair/warranty line and ask for help. They troubleshoot the phone and came to conclusion that I need a new phone, since I am under 1 year warranty from Motorola. So we go on and do our process and all the sudden the person asks me If I wanna wait 3 weeks for to ship. I was like OK just get me a new phone...and later he tells me to wait and asks me IF I WANT A DIFFERENT PHONE! I said no just give me mpx220.
The reason was that mpx220 was backorder for more thant 500+ phones. So he can't send me my $300 mpx220 and wants me to send audiobox smt 5600 that has same features.
I'm sure audiobox smt 5600 is good phone but I didn't buy LEXUS for TOYOTA!
I want my mpx220 and not something thats alike or downgrade phones.!!!
MOTOROLA SUCKS *** AND THERE ISNT MUCH TO SAY!

now can someone give me ideas???

The audiovox doesn't suck. it's actually a much more stable phone with much better audio quality, bigger screen, newer WMP, and bluetooth voice dialing. Unless you have some sort of flip-phone fetish or are a hard-core gamer (the audiovox's joystick isn't well designed for gaming) - you might - like me - find yourself much happier with it. Or you could always just charge your mpx220 battery with the USB cable - i did that for the entire time i had my mpx220 (because i had the same issue as you) and never noticed a problem. Or you could pony up a couple hundred dollars, buy you one off of ebay and pray it doesn't suffer from one of many well known bugs common to motorola smartphones.

Just be thankful that you can charge it via USB cable. Going from MPx220 to SMT5600 is not Lexus to Toyota. The SMT5600 is a really nice phone and there are people on here who have switched and like the SMT better. I'm not into candy bar phones or I would have considered it. The MPx220 is a great phone but the charging port seems to be a problem on them. I am very carefull with mine but it can happen to anyone.

The trick I had used for a while (until even it stopped working) was to plug in the AC charger and slightly twist counterclockwise until it started charging. Then I wouldn't touch it at all until it was charged...

The SMT is a nice phone... The only thing I miss now is the inability to charge the SMT with the USB cable in the car. Apparently charging with the USB cable only works on computers (supposedly with Activesync, but I haven't tried it)...

what do you plug the usb cable into in the car?

apparently a real car charger will only set you back about $10.

even though it's only .2" - it's still 10% more screen. they both display at the same resolution so the benefit is that everything just displays 10% bigger on the audiovox. i notice it every time i look at the screen.

You have no clue what you are talking about - sure the SMT5600 is the Toyota - but the part you missed was that your MPX220 is actually a KIA although you paid for it to be Lexus.... Do you hear any recall, ROM updates to correct problems and manufacturer delays for SMT5600 - did not think so.

Why are you **** people defending a **** phone???? If he doesn't like the Audiovox great he doesn't have to, to each there own. I am bout tired of this fanboy war over these two phones, I mean jebus its just a **** phone. If it suits your needs and gets the job done, great!! Thats the whole reason why you bought the device. The MPx 220 is NOT better than the SMT 5600 and vise versa. They are both great devices and suit a variety of needs, if one of them suit your needs more than the other then good go for it...its the best descion you can make.

About the ROM's.....the fact that the manufactuer is backing up there product is good news to me....I like the fact that there are different ROMs available. Not only do they fix problems but they add fuctionalties...some that other smartphones do not have. I like having ROM updates and just because there are alot of ROM's for the MPx 220 doesn't mean they are only to fix problems.

So lets all just get along...this is advice forum, we help eachother out not flame eachother over which phone sucks and which one is better.

for those of you who think mpx220 (or motorola) is a good phone,
i called moto today and asked about mpx220 and they had no clue what they were talking about.
sales rep didnt know anything about mpx220 and recommended me that this was a very good phone with no recalls.
not only motorola wont give u a new phone even if its under 1 year warranty they want you to send your phone so that they can fix the problem and you wont have the phone for 1 month or so. In other hand, cingular will send you the phone first and have package ready for you to ship ur old phone.
motorlola just sucks! thats why samsung is #2 in the market.

i dont give F about both of these smartphones but if i had to choose i think smt5600 is better!

i think the reason people get so uptight about it is that we love technology, we love our gadgets, and we love convergence, but when it comes down to it - we need them to work - or in the case of our smartphones - at least the phone part. many of us suffered through the mpx220 experience - tolerating flaws - having fun checking the forums daily (or hourly) to see when the next ROM update would be discovered - and working through all the new problems all the various ROMS had or didn't have. i mean, that's half the fun of owning a gadget for some of us freaks. but the experience was a frustrating one. it would've been fine if the phone would've just worked. the pda functionality could've been a little screwy - i mean shoot - we can always use some pen and paper. but it was the PHONE that didn't work. it's a wonder my wife and i are still married after all the miscommunication that took place with our mpx220's. granted - we did communicate - the phones still rang - we still had our conversations - even if they were a little difficult. in fact - we kind of learned to live with our little handicapped phones. we learned their flaws and avoided them or compensated for them. and we'd probably still be doing it EXCEPT....

the day came that we finally exchanged for the smt5600. i don't think we even realized how much work it was to own an mpx220 until we got these new phones. it's pheonomenal - they just WORK! there are no bugs to work around - communication just happens. granted - communication somehow happened with the mpx220's (and they even had a satisfying little "click" when the flip closed) but life is just amazingly simple with the smt5600. And even though i don't have new ROM's and bug fixes to look forward to, I now find myself playing with all kinds of new software, themse, ringtones, games, etc...! This is what smartphones are all about! Life with the smt5600 is so wonderful, that i want everyone else to experience it! That's the reason us converts are so passionate (granted unkown2k1 seems a little OVERLY passionate). We've been down that path and we don't want others to suffer through it if they don't have/need to!

Omega's right though. It IS just a phone. But that's the point isn't it?

Somebody here posted something about - if you give your mpx220 back to cingular/motorola they will downgrade your phone to v551 but then they will credit your account with 350 bucks. has anyone heard about this?
i called cingular and they dont seem to know...

cingular did offer me the v551 and told me they would credit my account - but i never asked how much money. dang - if it's really $350 that's amazing. take it - spend $200 on an audiovox on ebay - and spend the rest.

They will credit that amount to your account! You don't get any kind of cash, meaning the credit can only be used for purchases through Cingular or towards your monthly bills.

Agreed. Every device has it's pro's and con's. I am constantly switching between my Jam and Mpx220. And let me tell you, I'm leaning towards the 220. Not that I don't like the Jam, but iMate ROM updates are such BS that it's driving me crazy!!

That being said, I won't trash the Jam, it does, for the most part, what I need it to do. I'm just stuck now on a sucky ROM.

ROM upgrades are very important and I don't think it denotes a bad product or company because it's being offered.....IMO

lol suffering...hahahaha I have never owned any device where I suffered....If it didn't work I made it work...and If that wasn't possiable..I got enother device...but I never suffered...I knew all about the problems the MPx 220 had way before I bought it...heck I knew about them when I got the engineering sample of the device...but that is why I got it...because it wasn't perfect but I know I could make it that way....granted its not perfect now but I tell you what it has come a long way and it keeps me occupied and keeps my interest..thats all I care about...If I just want "cell phone"....I would use my T721.....

I just love to tinker....thats why the MPx 220 fits for me and besides all problems I have had with the MPx 220 are software related...when I had the SMT its has hardware related...dust underscreen, the LCD would dim in and out, I had to turn off the phone to change the miniSD, and the audio maybe louder but it has this **** hissing noise that drives me crazy..yes I know thats a software\hardware problem...but heck I still liked the device and it was fun to use....I had more fun tinkering with my MPx 200 than it.

so today i called up cingular telling them i want v551 and now they are saying they dont see it on their computer screen as replacement phone.
omG!!!! more frustration!!! until last thursday it was there and they said today there is only audiobox smt5600.
this is just getting worse and worse. so i am gonna call everyday to check if v551 is back for my downgrade fone for my mpx220.
i have chargeing to my usb, because i cant carry my computer everywher!

I switched from the MPx220 to the Razr V3 yesterday ... while I lot the Smartphone features ... it is a much better phone ... plus I no longer have 2 Smartphones (Blackberry from work, MPx220 home)

i totally agree. picked up a v3 and enjoyed it right out of the box. i'm hoping the smt will be somewhat better than the mpx was; how could it not? on a side note, xbm is offering the v551 and $350 credit, but only if you complain about the smt 5600 offer enough.

The V3? Compared to a smartphone? Come on!! While I think the V3 is a Fly A** phone, it has 5 Mb of internal memory?! What are you going to do with that? I guess, if, you just want a phone, which many people only want, to make calls, then yes, it's okay. You still have the broken Address book with multiple entries for each Contact, no memory expanison, and only simple Java apps to install. To each his own as they say. But for my money out of the box I want more out of today's phones and that's why I'll stick with my 220, or with my Jam (once there's a new ROM upgrade to fix GPRS issues!!

my point was more the fact that i pulled the v3 out of the box and it worked, unlike the mpx200. no need to flash it in order to hear it ring anywhere outside an isolation chamber... not comparing the phones, just the fact that motorola can make a phone that works out of the box. sometimes i think they drop the ball, such as the mpx. in my opinion, the mpx just isnt usable as a phone, and not so great as a "smartphone" either. i had high hopes, but i'll settle for dust issues with smt 5600 in exchange for stable firmware.

I know what you mean, wasn't trying to be harsh. I gave my wife my e398, it's one of the best phones I've had. Great RF and very loud, and it worked out of the box. For me though, my MPx220 works great. Call volume is loud enough for me, I get my corp email, and it doesn't crash. My Jam on the other hand is another issue......But that's in the other forum.

uknown2k1 I did have charging problems with my phone. It would only charge with the usb port. If it charged with that it must not be the phone. I cleaned the contacts on the phone and wow!!!! it now charges ok.
mpx220 rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just a side note, got the smt 5600 and i really like it. voice dialing through bluetooth is realy nice, as well as wmp 10. just wish the mpx would have performed this well.

What I Had To Do When My Mpx220 Farked Up I Had Them Send Me The 5600 Piec O Crap Used For Like 5 Min And Gave It To Wife Who Had The V551 And I Went Out And Got The Sony 710 I Am Like Nice Screens And Mega Pix Cames Not Piec Of Crap Vgas What The He11 Is Up With Cingular Da They Should Be Replacing The 220 With The 710 Best Phone I Have Ever Used And Trust Me I Have Been Through 20+ Phones

LOL Yeah I don't know why Unknown is trippin so bad, dude, just hit Target up for a phone alright? I'd also suggest switching from Cingular as well if they are giving you that much trouble.

I paid my $300+ for my MPX220, and it's worth every penny. Not just a phone, but a SmartPhone/MediaPlayer/Planner/Addressbook/etc. etc.

I love my 3.50 upgrade version and also enjoyed learning all about the RegEdit-ing and tweaks and all the programs available. Had practice with my MPX200, which is on WM2003 and it still rocks! It's now my "backup/snowboarding" phone.

Toyota, Lexus, heck, mines a Ferrari in my eyes and ain't no changing my mind. And oh yeah, almost forgot sumthin, my point?

[Insert Cartman laugh here] Heh heh heh heh haa heh.... I got a great SmartPhone!

In what ways?

Their hardware specs are extremely similar, and their actual performance is almost identical. The build quality of the SMT is far more "solid" than the MPX220, and it doesn't have all the annoying hardware related issues like the faulty charger port.

Finally, the screen is bigger on the SMT. Really, the only things the MPX has going for it are the flip form factor, and the 4th frequency band.

So, in what way is the MPX220 the inherently superior phone? It seems that they are reasonably well matched, with the SMT getting the nod as the more stable *product.*

Does Moto/mpx220 really suck, or does it just suck to be you?

It sounds like the mpx220 is a luck-of-the-draw sort of phone. My husband and I got lucky 2/2. Lots of other lucky mpx220 (and smt5600) folks in here, too, it looks like.

Good luck getting the V551, I hear it's a nice, simple phone...and sometimes, that's all some people need -- a phone that works like a phone. Smartphones are so very cool and well, interesting (but you need a cool, interested head to match, I guess).

If the MPx 220 was released with a much more stable ROM, and a better quality charging port people would of loved this phone alot more. The fact is that the MPx 220 has potential and unless you are smart enought, resourceful enought and just plain geek that loves to hack things to get them to work to your liking the MPx 220 is not for you....the SMT works fine out the box but its slower, and has its own software glitches and hardware problems as well. HTC did a much better job of releasing a more finished product than Moto did but that does'nt mean the MPx 220 sucks, it means Moto sucks and thats why I won't be buying a Motorola Q or any other Smartphone that they make until they can have the quality control to back up there products....I like hacking my phone so I don't really care.....but hell it should work out the box.

1.Charging port.
2.Speaker phone.
3.Freezes ... yes 1.47 is stable but i use treo650 and i know that if phone freezes up 2wice a week its sh...y even if u run many programms..

Mtorola SUCKS... Mpx220 for me is best loking phone and great features but it SUCKS..

I dont know is Solidad.M from motorola suport male or female but i vant to fu.. her.his *** because they act like idiots.. Support sucks rom upgrades sucks ...

But its still best phone i ever have

3.Freezes ... yes 1.47 is stable but i use treo650 and i know that if phone freezes up 2wice a week its sh...y even if u run many programms..

Mtorola SUCKS... Mpx220 for me is best loking phone and great features but it SUCKS..

I dont know is Solidad.M from motorola suport male or female but i vant to fu.. her.his *** because they act like idiots.. Support sucks rom upgrades sucks ...

But its still best phone i ever have

All motorolas have that charging issue, v600 had it, friends v710, v60,v551, as for speakerphone mine is as loud as any phone ive had,yes any phone i had, now mp3s thru speaker sux, ringtones mp3s sux, midis are loud and to be honest im running at&t .343 firmware and phone never freezes, ive even tried the 3.46 1.47 1.43 and really see no difference, exspecially since i havent had a problem. ive had smt 5600 and as Omega said its better out of the box, its just a better phone not sure if its a better smartphone , but yes better phone for basic phone use, but my mpx 220 has better rf, no dust, crisper screen and is just prettier, but really its to each his own.

And its not that simple if we remember that i pay for it 600$.... Maybee you got it for 50$ or 200 with contract...

I like phone.. i bought it but i find all this s...t that really sucks.

holy shi$t i havent seen you guys cry about a phone so bad. if u don't like then dont use it stop crying and complaining about it. obviously its a good phone b/c a lot of people like it but not everyone wants to hear u cry about how much u hate it. deal with it its a smartphone for smart people who dont make quick assumptions and can realize there might be some issues. wow u guys amaze me with how much u can cry!!! its a good phone with some small technical issues if u dont want to deal with it shut ur mouth and get a new one.
