samsung c207 for 29.99 go phone... on cingular site...

can you just buy a go phone and use it with your regular plan or do you have to actually buy minutes with it?>

You can just buy the phone, I believe. Just go to cingular.com/gophone. Go to the phone selection, select the phone, and then go to SHOPPING CART. Then, you can check out without having to choose a plan or minutes.

Posted by: chonga

that's a pretty sweet deal then for a backup phone

Posted by: bobolito

You can also make sure to post in the correct forum next time. I had to move this thread from the main forum.

Posted by: ALCingularUser

I looked at it, and the page says the price is only valid with a service plan, yet they offer pay as you go with a $1/day charge if you use the phone, plus $0.10/min. Of course, if you take the GoPhone SIM out, the charge isn't an issue, but I wonder if there's a minimum you have to use the GoPhone plan and not get charged full retail for the phone. There must be a catch somewhere.

Posted by: lowspeed

I actully got 4 for $0 today... I guess it was a price mistake...

I wonder if they will cancel...

The shipping was free as well....

I have a feeling it was a glitch... maybe when they added the phone the forgot to setup the price.

Hey everyone, report back if just swapping out the SIM works... I may just do this too!

Yeah it definitly works.

They are GSM phones locked to cingular.

COOL! I was already thinking that the c207 would be the phone to get for my in-laws (I'll be eligible for upgrade mid-August). But I think I'll just do this and avoid the contract. When you consider that I'd have to pay the $18 upgrade fee to get the phone anyway, this phone really only costs $11.95!

Actually, I may get two since my x427's hinge is breaking (dropped one too many times) -- and then I'll have the c207 for a back-up (I'm still thinking of the Nokia 6620 for me and a RAZR for my wife when our upgrade becomes due).

Posted by: Rcadden

But do you have to buy a certain minimum amount of minutes to get it?? Or could you just walk into the store and out with a new phone??

I haven't "done it" yet, but @ cingular.com/gophone I can proceed to checkout without buying any minutes. I could be wrong, but they probably come with a welcome kit and instructions on "getting started" with minutes.

Posted by: Marcster

Heck, they're going for $50-$90 on eBay (incl. shipping).

Posted by: Rcadden

Well, I went ahead and checked out. Congrats to the lucky guy that got his for free, I had to pay the $30 for mine. By the way, I noticed that the website said it was an online offer only, so you can't just walk into a store and pick one off the shelf. Hopefully I'll get mine in soon.

It let me check out any everything, card was charged $29.99. Once it gets to my house and I throw my SIM card in there, they won't know the difference. Love GSM. Only thing that sucks is I'm really only buying it so that I have a Samsung wall charger.

any shipping charges?

I ordered 4 of them. It made me select a plan but not pay for one. I plan to sell them on ebay and will report back how it works.

This is hilarous! You guys are making Stan Sigman's job a lot easier.
I guess Cingular's 2nd qt numbers should be better than ok...

Can anyone think of a reason I can't just order 4 of these every day? Or a few times a day?

If there would be, you could just order 4 for your parents, then 4 for your best friend, 4 for your dog...

The T237 was $29.99 for a long time - is this a better phone or worse?

Posted by: eliminator

Resale looks a bit better on the Sammy on eBay at least.

I have the T237 for my in-laws. It's a basic phone, the screen is a little on the low-res side of things, the ringtones are just a step above the Nokia 3360 I used to have (http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=29).

As far as the c207, it's basically an x427 in bar style and internal antenna. I've never used a c207, but there are a lot of junk rings that came on my x427s -- like cats meowing, birds chirping...and some are o.k. The screen on the x427 is so much nicer than the T237.

Either phone is DEFINITELY worth $29.99...

Compare 'em here:
http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/co...B%5D=&id%5B%5D=

Posted by: Rcadden

we've carried the c207 in our store for a long time, since like, Christmas. It's a nice little phone, if you want small small small. Still comes with those crappy samsung ringtones, like you said, it's basically a non-flip x427. The buttons are kinda hard to use cause they are pretty raised up and the phone is super small. very nice screen, though.

Posted by: DanPR

OK folks, for those of you who ordered the C207 online, how long did it take to get your phone? I ordered Monday evening (6/13), and only this morning (6/16) got a FedEx tracking number. When I plug it in to the FedEx tracking webpage, they don't even have record of it yet. In contrast, the Beyond Wireless prepaid backup phone I ordered yesterday arrived today.

Posted by: remusrm

well, actually yours is faster... i ordered mine on the 10th and will be here tomorrow. remember, a weekend passed by.... anyways i do not really plan on using the prepaid i just want the phone.

I ordered on the 10th too.

Out of the 4 only 2 have tracking. (and the tracking is not registered in fedex yet)

mine's on the truck for delivery today. I checked the other day, you can't just walk into a store, they don't hvae this phone for GoPhone, it's definitely web only.

Mine arrived today. Charging it up... Let's see if it's just a simple matter of switchin' SIMs.

How is the quality of the build ? does it look as small as they describe it ?

I ordered one, and mine should be here today, too, but it says only the SIM card on the Cingular website. Is this normal?

Mine too. I'll have to write a short review after I receive it.

A week or so ago I got to fiddle with an in-store demo of the C207. They finally popped up in California.

I've mentioned this before, but I like the phone with one major problem: The screen is dim. It's the same type of "ultra fine/bright (UFB)" LCD screen as found on the x427 and x427m, but much dimmer and squared off (128x128 I think). Fiddling with the contrast doesn't help a whole lot.

Worse yet? It was sitting next to an LG C1300i, and the LG's little screen absolutely POPPED with color/decent contrast compared the C207's.

For this reason (screen) I'm passing on this phone. Yes I know it's a low-end phone. Otherwise, I like the basic qualities of this model: Good key clicky-feedback, small and slim size, and perhaps something else that isn't so obvious... the LCD screen does revert to a digital clock screensaver, but it keeps the top row of icons visible! This includes battery/RF/message status! Kind of nice. Now why can't everyone else do this?

The thing is TINY! It's as long as my palm (lengthwise).

Sim swap works fine. Graphics are sharper, but but the screen is smaller than my x427. One new ringtone, one taken away. Keys are about 25% smaller than the x427's.

Just called VM & #121, no problems, sounded clear (better than my x427).

The plastic port for the power connector is attached to the phone, a nice touch since I lost the ones for both x427s long ago.

I don't know if it's "normal" but that's how mine was too.

Posted by: WirelessAndy

Oh yes, it would appear the headset is probably the same as the x427's, and not the rectangular kind found on the e317 and p777.

Just one telephone ring -- #1 -- #2 was replaced with Arabesque (they probably mean Aruba-esque, since it is birds chirping and Jamaican-style music).

Here's a quick pic next to my x427 (quarter is for scale):

If your monitor is set for 1024x768 that that pic is pretty close to life-size

And here's a close-up of why I needed to replace my x427:
(Left side hinge is broken -- wires seem to be the only thing keeping it together)

The c207 will get me by till I'm up for a new phone in mid-Aug.

Funny... the reason I ordered the C207 is because I've just started noticing two small cracks on the left side of the hinge of my X427. I wonder if this is a common problem with the X427?

I just use the Cingular & Samba... My parents are "mystery"...

I switched from a knock-off case to an official Samsung one and kept bumping it on everything (counters, doorways, etc.) The knock-off cases from eBay keep the phone closer to your body, but the design is all wrong for a flip phone -- the case gets stretched out in no time. Anyway, I think it was the switch to the official case that did mine in. Although, the 3-4 drops to pavement probably didn't help.

I also figure this will be a cheap, good way to find out if a candybar is the direction I want to go.

Posted by: Marcster

And let the eBay games begin:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5782303394&rd=1
Just closed for $49 + $10 shipping and clearly labeled as "Cingular PrePaid".

And, here's another going for $60 + $15 for shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5782371120&rd=1

And $52 + $9.13 for shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5781396718&rd=1

(Not my auctions at all... just pointing them out.)

Posted by: Marcster

My official Samsung headset from my x427 is a direct fit & is much more comfortable than holding this tiny phone in my relatively large hand (I'm 6').

Everybody, make sure you get an official headset -- those black knock-offs (from eBay) don't work -- something about the plug connection -- you can hear, but no one can hear you.

Oooh, I have a feeling there's gonna be a little run on cases, car chargers, and headsets for the c207.

Posted by: remusrm

I got the phone finally. It is nice, small. The keys seem floaty in their places. The screen is much much better then the t237. The menu is just like the x427m but maybe has new icons. I do not remember. The call quality is pretty good, and receptions is awsome. Compared to my nokia 3220. I had to put that stupid activation code to get my 10 dollars in min. It was not mention anywhere....

The cheapo, standard everyday 2.5mm headset plugs have a different pinout than the Samsung "standard" for the x427, and now C207. A normal headset plug will have 3 conductors (tip, ring and sleeve, they're called). A Samsung one will have tip, two rings, and sleeve.

Say Marcster: Can you verify my observations? Is the C207's screen less bright than the x427? I'm wondering if maybe I was looking at a bad one in the store, or maybe the battery was low and it switched to a dimmer setting...

Andy, you are 100% correct -- the c207 screen is definately less bright! And the adjustments for contrast do nothing to correct it.

However, it's not the end of the world.

At least they got the right idea for name/phone number entry... They finally have a setting to capitalize the first letter of every word: for instance "Smith, John" without having to mess with the upper/lower/T9/Numbers button! That was SO annoying with the x427! But they had that on my ancient Nokia 3360.

It's the stupid little things that keep Samsungs from being desirable -- being able to easily move names/numbers from the sim to the phone and back again, plenty of useless ringtones, lack of bluetooth on most of their line, etc.

Marcster,

Thanks for verifying that for me! I was also kind of bummed the T9 dictionary was still "broken" (seems to forget novel words and if there's no match for the keystrokes, it won't let you enter more characters).

Yeah, I never use T9 -- maybe I should blame Samsung's execution... I am, however, realizing that any conversation over 5 minutes will require the headset since the c207 is so tiny it's uncomfortable in my hand.

But, I just want to make it till mid-Aug. and get a phone w/bluetooth. I guess I could have just bought a new phone at the one-year price since I am still under contract... Oh well, still it's $29.99 well spent.

To those of you who have the c207 already:

1. What is the size compared to the T237?

2. When you purchase this as a go phone, are you required to activate a pre paid sim in a specific amount of time?

Thanx..

Posted by: Marcster

1. What is the size compared to the T237? They are almost the same size, but the keys seem a little larger on the T237 -- my in-laws have that phone...

2. When you purchase this as a go phone, are you required to activate a pre paid sim in a specific amount of time? No, not at all -- there is a welcome pack with instructions on purchasing minutes. But nothing forcing you to do so.

Posted by: Bklyn Bruiser

TY for your responce Marcster...

Looks Like I will be ordering mines tonight. I use the t237 as a backup fone and its about had it. I think I will get 2 since I have 5 lines of service.

Posted by: Ebonygurl00

I just got my c207, and I love it! WAY better than the T237. I was using the SE T316(very old), and I'm plesantly surprised by how much better the c207 is. The Samsung is faster than the T237, and the screen is better. So are the keys. Everything is! WAP even seems a little faster. I'm DEFINITELY gonna be keeping this phone as my prepaid phone! It reminds me of my old Samsung a610, but way better. It's like a flip phone in a candybar-style format. I love it so much!

I got all 4 phone even though they only sent notification for 2 !

wowo

very small phone! looks sharp!

Posted by: lowspeed

Ok i couldn't resist and i opened one.

Here's my first impression:

Nice screen much better then the nokia 6010 and 3100/3120.

Nice ring tone selections.

Some actually vibrate according to the rhythm.

I'll miss the menu then * to lock the phone.... this phone you press the * for 2 seconds.

Keys have good feedback.

only annoying thing is that in a none menu mode when you press the select (middle button) it connects to the internet. (Anyone knows how to disable this?)

Also the color screen is hard to read with no backlight.

Can't comment on RF or battery life. (which are #1 priority in my opinion the nokia 6010 has both great RF and battery life.)

Thas all ! hope this helps.

Posted by: Bklyn Bruiser

Hey Lowspeed

How does the phone feel? Cheaply made? How are the keys? Ordered 2 of them tonight.
Thanx

Posted by: Bklyn Bruiser

One more thing... what sort of headset jack does it use? standard 2.5??

Posted by: Rcadden

Got mine this afternoon. Yes, standard 2.5mm jack. If you're wanting to play with the phone, go to your nearest Sam's Club, we have had them since December, WAY before Cingular got them on the website or in stores. It's a super-small little phone, think like the 3120, only WAY more cramped, imo. It's not incredibly loud, ringtones or speaker volume, and as was noted before the screen is somewhat dim. The keys, personally, I HATE, it feels like someone cut a bunch of tic-tacs in half longways and glued them to the phone. But it's a nice phone for $30. I actually only bought mine so I'd have a wall-charger for my x427 and P107.

Yes, but you'll need the official Samsung headset - the knock-offs won't work.

I think the phone has good build quality.

One thing i just found is that it seems there is no vibrate+ring at the same time mode which is very annoying.... it first vibrates then rings (and it starts in a low volume and increaes) If anyone knows how to change this ... please share.

Key have good response. You can tell when they actually press.

The Samsung x427 suffers from this problem. There's no fix for that phone, so I doubt theres a fix for this one!

There is one ringtone that vibrates also. I think someone already pointed this out, sorry if they did already. That sucks though! Only one ringtone that vibrates. If I download a ringtone, will it vibrate?

Posted by: eliminator

Not a good idea to sell the phone with the included sim card is it? I'm thinking the account would be in my name. Do they throw in $10 worth of air time on the sim?

The ring volume is very low.

I can hardly hear it if its in my pants pocket.

Hmmm... I can still hear mine. Maybe you should set your rigntone to Waltz of the Flowers. Then you get the ringtone and the vibe.

I find the "boot up" time from off to "ready" to be about twice as fast as my x427.

Posted by: eliminator

Can I sell these with the included sim card? or is this sim card already registered in my name?

Posted by: remusrm

the phone is already activated and has your name in the system. so i would not sell the sim. the old version that they had on the t237 you had to do all of it. the sim was seperate, not active and not even any name, etc. now i think they found out that people just use them as back up phones, but they start to register the sims. BTW. the sim comes with 1 cent air time. only can call in and put in your activation code to get the FREE 10 min of talk time....

Remember, both the sim CCID and phone's IMEI are logged into the Cingular billing system under the buyer's name.

So sellers make sure your buyers aren't going to conduct illegal activities using the phone they buy from you.

All my Samsungs (except my D415) can ring and vibrate at the same time with the *.mmf ringtones that I use.

Just about all my ringtones that I use have Vibe +LED built into them and I set the Alert Type to just Melody and not Vibra+Melody. If you set it to Vibra+Melody, even if the ringtone has the Vibe built in, it will default to the Vibrate 3 times then ring.

I got the one I ordered in the mail yesterday. my brother wanted a go plan and use my T616 which would have cost $24 for the sim to go it in. this phone on special was $29 with the sim so it made sense to grab it. threw the new sim in teh T616 and he is off.

the samsung will be my backup/who cares if it gets broken phone.

Ok final review

The bad things that made me switch back to Nokia 6010:

1) Inconsitant voice quality during a call - I think bad RF, because i have most of the time full bars.

And when i didn't the quality of conversation was really bad.

2) Battery life wasn't what i expected. 2+ days. Didn't make the 3rd.

3) The unlock phone has this annoying pause of 3 seconds... you can't just start using it after the menu+* sequence...
Would be a great element of suspense in a horror movie when you have to make a quick call

4) The ring volume is aweful.

5) No real vibrate+ring at the same time.

Other then that Cute little phone. Nice games btw. I'm glad i tested it, this way i can appriciate the 6010 more even though its much bigger in size.

But even compared to the 3100/3120 this phone did poorly as far as RF and battery life.

Ta ta.

I've had the C207 since last Friday, and I have one observation - the battery on this thing lasts FOREVER in standby!

Maybe standby but i put 700-1000 minutes a month.

Likewise... I guess I'm just used to charging every 2-3 days when I'm actively using the phone.

Ya'll realize that you can plug your phone in when you go to bed every night, and then you wake up with a fresh battery every day. So much easier.

Actually, I usually do just that (unless I forget). I've been leaving the phone on in standby for several days to see how long it would last, just as an experiment.

Yeah, I think most of us do that. As soon as I see my phone go to one bar -- that night I charge it up.

They do cut you off on phone orders eventually.

I was wondering if someone knows how to unlock this? Do I need a data cable? Thanks.

I'm having probs. with my c207. People who call me sometimes hear themselves echoing. I don't hear it at all. I switched back to my x427 ~ problem went away.
