This is a full tutorial for the Audiovox CDM8940! Thanks to SouthernFlower's Post I got some of the tedious work cut out!
Ringtones, MP3's, Pictures, Movies, & Free Web

To connect the phone to the computer through USB:

1. buy a radioshack cable #28 for snapdialer link

2. download the curitel USB drivers from the forums on groups.yahoo.com
Group 1 8900
Group 2 8940

Once in the group go to the files section. Scroll down and you will find the drivers there.

3. plug in the phone

4. when it asks for the driver point it to the extacted drivers from the curitel zip file.

Loading the drivers is a slightly long process. When it asks for the driver location point back to the files you downloaded. It will keep asking you if you want to install them. It looks like you are installing the same drivers over and over again but I think there are just many various parts to the drivers. Just keep saying yes and installing them until it finishes up.

5. download QPST software (Mod Edit: Links have been removed in accordance to our no warez policy. To obtain these files, please do a Google search, but be advised that QPST can only be licenced to authorized service technicians).
6. install it, rebooting is not necessary.

7. find the COM port the phone is installed on. you can do this with 'device manager' in the 'System' control panel. look under modems. right click and get properties. click advanced > advanced port settings to find the COM port.

8. Go to QPST configuration tool.

9. add the COM port for the phone (you found this in step 8) to the configuration. If you couldn't find it in step 8 just start putting in all the COM ports you have.

the port the phone is on is different then the port for the modem so be patient and try ports close to the port listed! if your phone says COM4 then your modem could be on COM3

11. click 'EFS explorer' under 'start clients' menu option

12. select your phone

Transfering Pictures from Phone to Computer

1. browse to 'brew > shared > jpeg'

2. right click files and click 'Copy from phone' to download

Transfering Ringtones from your Computer to Phone

1. go to 'user > sound > ringtone'

2. Add your ringtone to the ringtone folder (it can be a .mp3!)

3. Re-boot phone

4. ::important!:: Go to Get It Now. Then go to buying ringtones. Keep going until you get to the step where you buy the ringtone (where it shows you the prices), stop and the exit Get It Now. ringtone will now appear in the tones folder.

Transfering Wallpapers from your Computer to Phone

1. go to 'brew > shared > wallpapers'

2. Add wallpaper (size that worked for me was 179 x 205)

picture size can go all the way up to 960x1280

3. Re-boot phone

4. ::important:: Go to Get It Now. go to "get pix" and go all the way thro like you're going to buy a wallpaper (stop where it lists the prices) and then exit. Your wallpapers will show up in your images download folder

Transfering Animated Gif's from your Computer to Phone

1. email the gif to yournumber@vzwpix.com as an attachment

this is the only way i've been able to get animated gif's on my phone!

Transfering Videos from your Computer to Phone

1. download and install STOIK Video Converter 2.0

2. find a video of any length, the only exception is that it has to be .wmv! i haven't gotten anything but .wmv to work on this phone and i haven't yet successfully converted .mpg or .avi to .wmv so my tip is to stick with what works and i'm sure later in the thread someone will give you some feedback!

3. open STOIK, enter the input file and name and location for the output file. goto output format and edit profile. use the following settings! these settings have been optimized between me and 3 other users!

VIDEO:
Frame size: 160x120
Frame rate: 15 Computer
Buffer Window: 5000ms
Video codec: Windows Media Video 9
Quality: slider all the way to the right
Bitrate: 156 K
Key-frame spacing: 10
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE VBR UNCHECKED

AUDIO:
Buffer Window: 5000ms
Audio Codec: Windows Media Audio 9.1
Audio Format: 48 kbps, 44kHz, mono CBR

4. open the EFS Explorer (QPST Software). goto 'brew > 12513 > downloads' and add the file to that folder!

5. Re-boot phone and goto 'Video Clips'. even if you don't have VCast in your area you need to do this step! if VCast is available enter and exit, if its not the message will display "Advanced Network Unavailable", exit. the videos will now show up if you go to "Media Gallery" then "Flix".

Transferring MP3's from your Computer to Your SD Card!

1. put the card in your phone.

2. restart your phone.

3. goto "Settings" "Security" (your code initially is your last 4 digits of your phone number!) "SD Card" "Format"

4. place your SD card in a smartcard reader

5. goto "2A..." (folder name varies) "MP3" and just drop your MP3's on there!

6. be sure to restart your phone after you insert the card or else you won't see your MP3's!

recommendation, set your phone to save your pictures and video to your SD card! however, when it is time to transfer you have to send the pix to your phone first!

Setting up FREE Web

1. Dial, YES DIAL, ##browser and then hit the red call end button!

2. goto http://www.publicproxyservers.com/index.html and get 2 IP's with port 80 or 8080.

3. set the "UP Proxy IP" for "UP Link1,2,3" to "AP1-IP" and "AP2-IP" where ap1 is your first ip and ap2 is your second ip. be sure to enter the ports for each also!

4. set the "Host Config" "Host Name" to whatever you choose to use! i've gotten:

wap.google.com
wap.yahoo.com
wap.ebay.com

5. enter the "Port Number" under "Host Config" to whatever port 80 or 8080 according to the UP Links that you chose!

6. delete the "Auth ID" and "Auth PW"!

7. open your web browser!

As far as the battery life of this phone goes... Buy an extended life battery! Other than that this is the best phone I've owned in 8 years of cell phone use! Have fun everyone! Enjoy!!!

NO, but if you can get www.tagtag.com to work then you can customize the links you have! Check them out! You gotta do some hex editing in order to get their site to work. Pamela80 knows how, maybe she will post some instructions here!

Heh, you called?

I didn't hex the files though, my friend did. I'll give a link to get them, but read this first.
-Make sure you backup your nvup folder FIRST with bitpim.
-Make sure you have the webpage you really want first as your homepage because it's a pain to change everything back again.
-To change your page, you have to put your original nvup folder back on, then overwrite it with the changed files again.

this sucks that this phone is already verizons most expensive. Then you have to buy cables and a mini sd card. Ugh. Anywho...my question is with qpst, what do i do with these files from pamela? Just stick them in the nvup folder? How do i edit the homepage?

and just so you guys know, the web browser settings work for the CDM8910 as well...

just takes some common sense (which most people on here DON'T have) to figure out the differences in menus..

Just put the files into the nvup folder.. then when you start your browser, it will ask you what you want your homepage to be and you just manually enter it

you have to set the phone to answer on flip to off! you only see the pictures on the main screen. we haven't figured out how to get pix on the front lcd YET....

What hex editor did your friend use? Bitpim will let me view but that's it. Been using plain ol' notepad for editing but not all characters translate to valid ascii and get a lot of blocks. Thanks.

as far as i know there is no known way to have picture caller ID on the outside LCD or anyway to even change the picture on the display. so basically the front LCD is off limits until a cell phone god and figure it out and let us mortals know.

Thanks all for the great info on this forum, I followed the tutorial and it all works great. Now we just have to figure out how to change those ugly subscreen pictures.

I believe you can tell how much internal memory you are using by browsing to: Get it now -> Settings -> Manage Apps

The bottom of the screen should list the amount of used/available memory.

Has anyone figured how or if to change the LED on the front I hate how it cycles through all the colors when it rings. I would rather have it solid blue or something, or at least have profiles like the moto V600.

having problem with free internet. i've gotten as far as the google page showing up and it brings up my web search results but when i click on the links i get "http error: 404 not found". how can i fix this?

Unfortunately my user life of the 8940 has ended today

my phone fell in the ocean on the long island sound today while i was on my friends boat... i pulled the battery and let it dry for 5 hours and turned it on and it flashed and blinked then the camera flash lit and blinked and it shut off... i think that was her last breath :rolleyes2 hope i was able to give you all good advice... i'll prolly just end up buyin a cheap phone off ebay, i don't have the money to throw out to buy a new one... have fun all! and g'luck with the phone!

dont know why im having a problem with my phone and qpst. My lg vx8000 works fine. When i tried to put the audiovox in, it finds the com port that i hook the usb cable to but it doesnt find the phone...always says no phone but com port enabled. I think its a driver thing. I installed curitell drivers twice and future dial drivers once. I tried on com port7 then port 9. When i plug the phone in, it makes the plug sound so it recognizes a phone being plugged in but qpst always says no phone. It is something differant about this one, bc the service menu code isnt 000000?

Any one have a differant set of drivers i can download from somewhere?

no... just make sure you can't see any sign's of water damage, dry it up as good as you can...

take it into your vzw store, and tell them "uhhh... it just stopped working"... they'll see if it can be turned on, and you said it can't, and they'll just give you a new phone... I've done it a few times, lol...

so go get your 8940 back!!

I was using pamela's hex files. I backed up the originals before i put her's on there and it worked at first and said enter your homepage but after that i got a http error. I figured one of my proxy's went down so i checked them and changed them but still no luck. Then i put the original files back on but i still get this http error. What to do? Can someone post the nvup files on here cause maybe i didnt back one up. Thanks

Hey everyone I got my phone to work! I took the whole thing apart and I let it dry a little more and shes back! the front lcd is a lil water logged and the main display is a lil f'd up but everything else works! its better than a broken 8940 thats for sure

I am back in the game! while i was inside i was taking a look at some of the possible reasons for the speaker phone volume level to be lacking and i didn't see anything that we could do other an replace the mini speaker with an upgrade? talk to you all soon!

hey guys,

I just tried the free web part of the tutorial. I assigned everything AP1 & AP2 in the UP link 1,2,3 all different proxy servers from http://www.publicproxyservers.com/ with the same port of 80. but when i finish and go into browser it gives me the error "network unavailable, try again later". Im in the US and using all the US proxy servers. Can you guys help me out of am i doing something wrong?

A lot of the proxies on there dont work. Somewhere on these forums i found a site that tests your proxies. Worked very well and now i got free wap on my phone. But im sorry but i do not have that site on here anymore.

I don't think you can send them to you SD card with qpst.

I just got an 8940, well my girlfriend did anyway. (i think it's hers, she hasn't touched it much since I got my hands on it

)

I don't have an SD card, but I would think there would be some way to send them to the card through the phone itself, then get a USB SD card reader.

Or, copy them to your PC using qpst, (you'll still need the USB SD card reader), and copy them from your PC to the card.

That is my best guess at this point, till we get an SD card anyway.

Well thing is i cant jus get a card reader and add the pictures and videos onto the miniSD card like u can with the .mp3 files........the only way to transfer the video and pictures( and make it actually work) is through the data cable....

I'm a new member and have been following this thread for a while. Most everyhting has worked for me except the video transfer. The phone makes 3g2 files that quicktime can't read even with the 3gpp2 plugin, and STOIK doesn't seem to have an option to create 3g2 files that can be read by the phone. I tried sending WMVs to the phone but it never finds them (even after a reboot and VCast attempt). The only way i've been able to get a vid on there (or picture for that matter, which is what i have to add) is to create a vid/pic on the phone and overwrite it so the phone thinks it created it. AVS video editor will output 3g2 files (with their banner on the free version) and if you title them "mpeg0001.3g2" or whatever matches, the video plays great. Same with pictures. Snap a random picture and overwrite it w/ a .jpg and you're rolling. Great thing about importing pics thios way is that that can be used for almost anything, like wallpaper and caller ID.

Now for the MP3 part. I bought a 1gig miniSD and it works great, but I've got a alot of mp3s (I cut it down below 512MB because I thought it couldn't address the whole gig) and it always check mark's the last bunch of the songs when accessed. Then if you uncheck them all it'll crash. Funny thing is it seems to randomly pick through all of the songs even if i leave it alone.

one more slight problem is that it seem like once you overwrite a file it doesn't like to move ti to the SD card...I'm still working on it.

Anyways, please let me know what I'm doing wrone w/ the video tranfer. Maybe I should change the extension to 3g2? But then I would think I should code it in mpeg4, not windows media.

I haven't tried adding pics to wallpaper, maybe that works well too, but I hope this helps.

I have started playing with this. QPST is not the best to use in my opinion, but it's all I have found so far.

I get random errors from QPST when I start it and it reads the phone.
It doesn't like the file system that much.

I also can not pull pictures from QPST as stated in the tutorial. They always come out with 0 kb. Weather locked for exclusive use or not.
I have also noticed that sometimes the rest of the folders under brew/shared will only show up randomly when I connect to the phone. (ie anim, video etc.)
Those folders do not show up in bitpim either.

I did upload one ring tone and it works.

I'm sure that over writing a jpg already there will work.

I just tried BitPim and was able to pull the pictures to my pc.
This phones camera is not that bad actually.

will have to look at this more later.

I bought the cable from this guy. I don't think the 8940 is listed on the website, but the Audiovox cable works. I bought 2 for less than a radio shack one (they didn't even have em).

I'm trying to get mobile web working, and I have a couple questions:

1) To use waptunnel, do we just put the IP and port 9201 in the UP Link menus, where the tutorial instructs to put proxies?
2) Does the starting page go under the "Host Config" menu? I'm trying to get to my tagtag page, and it never asks for a full URL anywhere in that menu, only a host name and port.
3) If I use Pamela's edited files, THEN what settings are we supposed to use for the UP Link and Host config menus? Should we reset those to factory settings?

Ok you want to change the port to 80 like it says and get two workin proxies then you put pamelas hexed files on there.You dont want you use any of the factory settings or it costs money. so hope this helps.

the first post on the first page tells you where to put the proxies. It gives you instructions . and yes you put ur webpage under host name in host config. You change the port number to 80 and delete the auth id and pw. for the proxies you will have to find two workin proxies then you go to up link 1 and put it in AP1-1p and the other in AP2-1P change the Ap1 port and Ap2 port to 80. Repeat these steps for the up link 2 and 3. Than put the hexed files on your phone. Then you can get free wap like me and others.

I understand how proxies work. The question is what to put in the host name field. If I put "wap.google.com:80" into the host name field, openwave will start at google. Pamela's files are basically edited to change the preset homepage from "http://homepage/" to "http://www.tagtag.com/pamela80".

So, if I put wap.google.com into the host name field AND I have the hexed files to change the home page, which page will it go to? Google, or pamela's tagtag site?

If in fact I use the hexed files and set the host name to wap.google.com, it ****s up. It goes to google, but openwave sees the address as "http://tagtag.c/". It's not quite as straightforward as that, there must be another solution.

And where it asks "host name," I can't enter http://www.tagtag.com/mytagtagsite. It's not asking for a url. It's asking for a host name and port

Hello, noob here...

I tried to follow the sticky guide on how to make video clips for the 8940 and I must be doing something wrong.The clips show up but they just have a red X and say unable to play clip.If I follwed the instructions what else might I be doing wrong?

Also is there any folder accessible in QPST where you can store MP3's resident on the phone? (I dont have a Mini SD card yet)

i have an audiovox cdm-8910 phone and i followed your instructions to get on the web with my phone..i found some free i.p. addresses and tried several while following the instructions dead letter...my carrier is metropcs here in atlanta..the phone tries to connect and it tells me "network not responding" can you help me get online?

Hi, I haven't been able to fully access the WAP either. I'm pretty new to this.. After I set the host name to wap.yahoo.com or wap.google.com, how do I navigate to another website? I get hte same error elsewhere and i can only navigate through the home host site. i can search google but I can't access the results. please help! thanks!

Follow this: Menu-->7-->1-->1-->1, then push right arrow twice. Now you'll see your New ringtones.

There is no need to transfer them into the ringtone folder.

I'm having the same problem. I tested those proxies and they are working on my comuter. But there is no response on the phone.

Here's my question: How to transfer pictures from PC into the "pix" folder or the jpeg folder on the phone? I think it's easier to use pictures as wallpaper since we don't need to resize them. Also I can't make the wallpaper to fill the whole screen. It only stand in the middle as a small image no matter what size I put in the wallpaper folder (I tried the one 179x205 mentioned by OP).
Any thoughts?

Actually your menu are same as mine, I thought yours maybe a little different. You can get it by following my previous instruction, to the every end!
Or you can try it in a different way. Go to "menu-->settings>sound-->ringer type-->ringer, now push right arrow twice, you should be able to pull your "downloaded" ringtones there.

Yes, they are in different folder, but it won't matter. May this help.

Bought an adapter (#274-373, 3/32" to 1/8 " regular, $3.99), and a regular 1' extension cable ($2.99) to connect from the adapter to my car cd player.
Like other guys who also tried this, I also tried to connect them directly and only got mono sound (right speaker), and the adapter was also slipping out the phone from time to time.

I played them around today and accidently found that I'll get stereo sound if I only plug the cable into the adapter halfway! You can try to move it around to find the perfect position of the cable into the adapter. Then I fixed the connection by tape.

More exciting is that we can actually plug the adapter into the cellphone fully without slipping out problem. The only thing you need to do is to pull the earbud cover away when you plug in the adapter. Just be careful not to pull it out.

Now I can enjoy the cellphone mp3 player playing my favorite songs anytime when I drive (I drive a lot). Hope you guys can also work this out.

Hey J. When you format and then hook up the card to the computer... how are you reading the card to the computer? what kind of card is it? all the phone is doing when you format is creating the default folders that the phone will read from.

and it'll show its connected usually, but everytime i try to open the folder it just freezes and does the task not responding..

yes but some on those sites do not work because they are knock offs. i'd bought mine from radioshack and works great. need to update the link for the radioshack cable with a new working cable.

I was able to get the free wap to work on my phone but I have a question. When I go to websites that I need to use my login, like AOL, Ebay, and Verizon, when I click on login nothing happens. I am able to browse websites just fine, but is there a way to login to websites? Is anyone else having this trouble? Thanks.

Hi Dan,

Do you have an Audiovox 8940? If so, hit ##browser, then hit the red end button. Then just follow the instructions already on this forum, it takes some patience but does work. The only thing is with me, I haven't been able to sign in to any websites, so I can't even get my email which is why I would use mobile web in the first place. If anyone has some advice I would really like to hear it.

Maybe its a bad mini sd i have no clue, im not really cell phone smart, just moderate. But when i go to format the sd card it says format failed. and when i go to send a picture from phone to SD card it says error. its a san disk mini sd 256mb. it says its compatable. am i doing anything wrong or probally a bad card?

For people having problems formatting the mini sd card - Go to Verizon store and get the software update. I had to go to 2 different stores for someone to finally do it. First store told me there was no update, second store updated it and the card formatted right away.

The Radio Shack cable that is currently available and does work with QPST is the FutureDial cable number 19. It says it is for LG phones but it works great with the drivers off the future dial website

Yeah I think this phone is awesome, nothing really looks as good as it, although I have had some problems. Two returned phones thus far. Well things I love; flashlight, simple mp3 player, personalized message ringers, protected camera, good navigation, easy t9 word add. thing not so great; speakerphone, no external pic caller id, small personalized ringer memory, and they've crapped out on me.

One 8940 wouldn't pic or vid message from vcast areas, and one wouldn't read my sd card (1gb).

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me on this.

I have a link cable for my 8940 and I have used it successfully using QPST to connect to my computer and to transfer photos and audio files and such. One day, I was transferring some pictures from my phone to my computer in this way, and I found a photo on the phone I didn't want. So, using QPST, I deleted that picture from the phone.

Ever since I did that, I haven't been able to view new photos on my phone. I will take a picture and then when I go to the gallery to look at it, it is just blank and it says the file is 0 kb. However, if I go back in to QPST, I can access the photos and bring them to my computer and they are fine.

This is very frustrating and I have no idea how to fix it. Any suggestions?

i just picked up a 8940 and bought a minisd card. i follwed the directions on how to format the card in the first post,but when i put in the card reader and the computer opens it theres no individual folders (mp3`s,pics, video`s)!! what am i doing wrong? i`ve had a 8100, 815,and a950 and all i had to do was put the card in the phone and it formated it .then when i put it int card reader it open showing all of the indididual folders(mp3, pics,video`s) where i could put my files into!!

If the darned thing would've held up to my punishment that would have been great, I got three replacements and was sending out the last one when I went with a lg8100. I fell into the lg crowd. I personally used to liken it to the ipod crowd, but you can't dispute the support community.
-Well I was having the sd card issue as well. I don't know if its a new software or what but the last two 8940's i got wouldn't format or read the gig minisd card I had. My first 8940 would (ITs problem was that it wouldn't send pix/flix messages from vcast areas

dunno why.) and so would the display model at the local display 8940 at the veriOn store.
-Well if anyone is interested in a datacable plus software, oem 8940 battery (not extended life but normal one) and a car charger, willing to seperate or package PM me.

i haven't used my QPST software in a while and tried to use it today and now it won't detect my phone... i'm not sure what's wrong with it or why it's doing this. the software is installed and the driver and the computer reconizes that the phone has been plugged up to the cable because it will beep. has anyone had this happen to them? what should i do?

I just got a 512 mini sd card and this card reader . I have succesfully put mp3's on the card and can listen to them on my phone although I cannot watch videos. I converted them just as said in this thread and put them in the flix folder on the card but they will not show up on the phone at all. Is it not possible to put videos on the card by using a mimisd card reader? Do you have to use QPST to do it?

does anyone know how to disable the sound on the 8940 when you go through the menu and it goes back to the top, it always plays this sound. even on vibrate. its annoying and not useful if you want to use in class/meeting.

I love my 8940 but the last 2 months have been a pain. First the battery would always show ZERO bars no matter how long I charged it. I ordered a new extended battery and car charger, and that battery did the same thing. Took my phone in and (thanks to insurance) they sent another free. That one did the same thing. They had a second replacement phone sent to me (none in stock - they said they NEVER have anyone bring them in broken) and a new charger. No luck with phone #2 before I sent back, or #3 when it came in, with either battery. PLUS the SD card wouldn't work with either phone #2 or #3. It recognizes that a card is there, because if I take it out it says no card present, and in it says no music files found.

Back to VZW and they send a third phone out (#4). I haven't activated it yet but same thing with SD card and battery. I think the extended battery I mail ordered was defective, too. Can't be all these phones. And I know people have had trouble with some SD cards working and some not. I think I got lucky with first phone and these others, but just read something about a SW upgrade that might help.

Oh, and I'd love to figure out a way to view my pics copied from my SD card to my Mac. Since I don't have a PC all the cables and hack programs don't help, and I don't have time for all that anyways. Just want to be able to take pics and save them without having to pay VZW for "developing" each one by requiring me to email them to myself from the phone. Every corporation is greedy, but you gotta set limits!

Justcuzimflip... there's a difference between the sounds Vibrate, Ringer Off, and Silence selections. If you hit Silence you shouldn't hear any sound any time, even during games, etc. You can select Vibrate or Ringer Off and games will still make noise, so that probably affects the sound you're hearing, too.

Never mind... I gave up. Had a deadline to return this phone by FedEx to Verizon before they tried to charge me for it, so I finally went in and complained to the manager that I had 3 replacement phones with the same problem, and I got a NEW phone. I had a choice between a Motorola or the LG 8100, both with similar features. I went with LG because I liked my last one, and I really, really like this one. Of course it's been disabled by Verizon for some of the cool features (like all their phones), but just simple things like getting to the calendar to check a day of the week or the way it handles incoming messages and plays music and several other things... I just like it more. It also plays my MP3s copied from my Mac with no problems... the 8940 copied 2 files for each song (I'm guessing the other was an icon file or something), and it would hang up on that extra file so I could only play one song at a time, and I couldn't delete most of them... so yeah, this one don't do that. Yeah! The simple things in life.

i am using a 8940 and have a free proxy. when i try to set my homepage to chuckie070.tripod.com/wap/index.wml i get an error saying to call verizon about getting internet. when i put a http:// before it the same thing happens. wap.google.com works for a homepage but i want to try this out. are there any suggestions?

Some inputs to this thread. Recently got the CDM8940. Appreciate all the work done here by the forum members, THANKS! Data cable and memory card are ordered.

OK, have done the Free Web procedure and was successful (after I learned how to read the instructions correctly

). Maybe I can provide some hints as to what worked for me. When you go to the sites listed to find free anonymous proxy servers with Port #'s 80 or 8080, write them down. Then goto your Start button - Run - and enter "command" to open a DOS window. In there type "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -n 20" where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx are the proxy IP addresses you want to use. If the ping command times out or you see delays > 100ms or you see packet loss, don't use that proxy (and the time out ones usually mean they are no longer working/valid!). Enter the good ones in as per the instructions.

The other problem I had was I wanted to use the yahoo wap portal. However, I could get in no problem and log in, but the info was out of date (like my weather info was 6 months old) - and I couldn't update it/refresh it. After doing some searching, I found a different wap address to use. Instead of wap.yahoo.com, try "wap.oa.yahoo.com" Bingo, I'm in with my saved page settings and info.

ok when i enter in ##2769737 (that spells browser) and then i hit end... I dont get any menus or nothing.. And when i stay on the line it says the call cannot be completed as dialed... I think maybe this feature is disabled or something. I just got my phone flashed at verizon for the new software upgrade. So maybe they took out that feature... someone please help.

mrwaffles - do NOT actually send the digits after nor connect with dial tone before entering the digits. Just power up your phone, then just press these keys, and only these keys: ##2769739end where the "end" entry is the power on/off key. The total number of key strokes should be 10. No calls are made, no digits should be sent to the MSC, etc. Just an internal phone keycode sequence to open a special menu system.

as far as i can remmeber you need to put the blank card in the phone and reformat it. it will create the folders for you that you need.

^^^ Yea...I forget what I did, if it was a format or prepping the card for switching to another phone (the second option) but it worked....with a Ridata card! I have a 1 gig Ridata card in my phone and it works fine....good deal for like $35 from Newegg!

HELP!!

I'm trying to connect my 8940 to my pc. I have the cable that plugs in to the phone, but my PC won't recognize the device. I ran the setup on the USB drivers a few times, but the PC still won't recognize the phone.

I got mine in May and had it replaced under warranty last week, works on both of them....I noticed you have an 8100 in your profile, are you trying this browser thing with that phone? This is the 8940 thread LOL. If not, I dunno what to tell ya, I'm playing the ETF to switch to Sprint the end of this month.

Quick question i recently got a new phone and ny my 8940 is deactivated. I wanted to pull some files off of it, like ive done 1000 times before. Using qpst. I get in efs explorer directory comes up and i go to copy my picturs everything seems noramal except it seems whatever i copy from the phone is 0 kb, pictures, ringtones or anything else. Uninstalled and reinstalled both qpst and the driver. no conflicts at all com port settings correct, Ran msconfig and disabled all startup items. Still the same no matter what i do.

Any ideas at all?

I got one....Use BitPim. You don't need QPST for the 8940's file system. Sure, youre using one hefty proggy, but BitPim will do the job. I do it daily...but in the end, I am terminating my contract early with Verizon and getting Sprint. I have had enough BS with their tech support on this phone. I got a 2nd 8940, and it won;t format ANY cards.....they tell me its the card. Hours of tech support both at the store and on the phone and their stance is that they want me to buy another card. I am out the cash...and now Best Buy thinks I can't work a digital camera cause when I returned them for an exchange I told them they wouldn't format...LOL. I got a Samsung A900 and I love it. Had their service for a month and its the same as VW's.

First of all I own 6 of these phones. 4 of them work correctlly with all functions operational. The latest 2 are ebay specials and niether will format a sd card.Thusly eliminating one of the most important features of this phone. After visits to V store software upgrades and numorous calls to UT starcom, the manufacturer of the phone. I have wrote off the last 2 with card problems. Until now that is? Can any techno geeks possiblly help me.
1. its not the card brand. they will format in working phones
2. Its not the software OS latest flashed by verizon.
3.Phone reconizes that a physical card is in there, menu option to save pic to sd card dissapears when viewing a pic saved to phone mem.
4. The last phone never had the dummy card removed from sd slot by previous owner
5. the ebay before that had 128meg card but owner said Verizon said he needed mp3 software to operate.
Those are the clues to my mistery.
Now for my comments and what I have learned or for that matter been told by the somewhat uninformed people at UT and Verizon. Some of it relates to other info posed in this forum. Never has the phone sd card had to be formatted using the format comand from the sd menue. Its always been turn off insert card turn on phone. Off remove and then the file drill. Ut says the only issues reported were that of incapatibility of cards from phone to phone. They must be formated to phone they will be used on. Also some manufacturers cards are incompatible. Both verizon and ut try to help but of all the people I have spoken with all say no database for problems exists? Can that be true? Verizon knows if you owe them a penny? I can comunicate with phones as I have usb cable and software. HELP Moonshower

I haven't seen an answer to the "http error: 400 Bad Request" problem...

I've pinged by proxies... they're working... I have followed the instructions for the web, my host is wap.google. I can connect to google home page ok, but when I go to gmail it gives me the error... I have been able to go to some pages w/o getting the error, but usually when I try to navigate away from the wap.google page it gives me the error.

Can anyone help?
