I just received a Vox 8500VM. The unit powers up and plays a tune and the screen powers on...yet it stays black. If you leave the unit on it makes a beep about every 20 sec.

I'm new to Audiovox and have a few questions.....

1.) Is it broken or am i just a dummy?
2.) Is this GSM compatible? There doesn't seem to be a slot for a SIM card...
3.) I know that it is a prepaid phone...but can it be unlocked to use on other networks?
