Hey everyone, I just recieved my brand new N-Gage QD from amazon.com a few days ago. I've been noticing the past two days the operator logo at the top of the main screen keep changing from "Tmobile" (my service provider) to "Cingular". Restarting the phone changes it back at least for a few minutes. Any idea why this is happening? I put an Cingular sim card in it once just to see what would happen, it said invalid card I believe.

edit- Maybe operator logo was the wrong word, I'm not talking about the picture that shows when you boot up the phone, I mean the text on the top of the main screen between the reception bars, time, and battery status.

its called roaming...that means u are going to an area in which tmo doesnt have coverage (aka 850 areas)...there's nothing wrong with that~

it's roaming tri...t-mo got a lot of roaming agreements done with cingular..he must be in the basement/parking lot a LOT

I know angel but in CA/NV, Cingular and T-Mobile are still sharing the Cingular GSM 1900-only network. Cingular hasn't migrated all users over to the AT&T GSM 850/1900 network and some T-Mobile CA/NV subscribers would see Cingular displayed on their phone even though they had their T-Mobile SIM inserted into the phone.

hmm..strange indeed -_-*

Yup, it has something do with the SIM cards themselves. Some accept Cingular's MNC (Network Code) over T-Mobile's MNC but CA/NV SIMs are set to prefer Cingular's (formerly Pacific Bell Wireless') MNC and an OTA update is the only way for older T-Mobile SIMs to see the correct network name.

because its sort of the same thing in canada now with fido and rogers...sigh~
