6230 or 6620?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I am now getting Cingular as my service provider from July onwards and was looking for some good phones to get.

My primary requirements are good reception, sound quality, ringtones/downloadable content, organizer/alarm clock and obciously mp3 player, camera are a plus.

I just keep getting confused between 6230 and 6620. My roommate has a 6600 and keeps telling me to get a 6620. It seems like a good phone, but last time I was talking on his 6600 and it seems like big in the hand.

With the 6230, I get it for free and in the future, lets say 2-3 months sell it and get a 6230i or 6680/1/2. What do you guys think? The only one big advantage I see in 6620 is the Symbian OS and custom tools...but I am not really going to watch movies on my phone.

Also, anybody here can confirm about Cingular phones working in Asia (mainly in India, I am an international student).

Also, both phones should allow me to send Intl text messages to other GSM phones right?

this is a popular discussion and has been gone over literally 30 times- infact i got flamed 7 months ago for asking it because there were already so many threads out there.... bottom line, if you dont need symbian and a big screen, get 6230-

-yes you can send international text messages no matter what, but you will be charged
-depending on what frequencies they have in india (asia) will depend whether or not you can use your phone over there

very popular question, probably because it is a good one. just depends on what you need your phone to do. and how much cash you want to spend.

The 6620 does 100+ time more things and has a bigger display. Trade off is the size. Do you need a PDA/phone? Then get the 6620. If you don't, go fer the 6230!!! ;-)

Good compromise is the Audiovox SMT5600. More powerful Windows Smartphone about the size of the 6230!!!

Well...what about getting the 6230 now and waiting for the next update to 6620 - 6680/1/2?

I personally like the 6620 over the 6230 because of its size, ergonomics, and screen. I find the 6620 really comfortable to hold in the hand, especially up to my ear. However, this becomes a moot point if a bluetooth headset is being employed.

The obvious advantage of the 6230 is size. A not so obvious one is reception, with perhaps a 5% gain over the 6620.

what 100's of things more can the 6620 do that the 6230 cannot?

Obviously you need to read up on Symbian OS!

Symbian is an actual operating system, which means that the 6620 is literally like a computer. the possibilities are endless

btw, the answer to the question is: i still don't know which one i would choose, i'm thinking of getting one of these two in the near future, and i couldn't make up my mind

just my .02 having used both, the 6620 is more capable and imo the build quality is better on the 6620, but alas i carry the 6230 due to it's compact size. either way you will have a nice phone. good luck

I agree completely! If you want the bells and whistles - 6620. You want smaller size - 6230.

I'm with the OP, the PhoneScoop comparison shows the 6230 to have more features than the 6620...

I don't care for either phone...but I am allergic to Nokias.

In regards to your other questions, where in India will you be travelling? A lot of the Indian carriers operate only on 900 not, 1800 (see http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_in.shtml). The Nolia 6230 is 850/1800/1900 meaning that in many parts of India it may not work. Your safest bet might then to go with a quad-band phones, which are mainly Motorolas (which have pretty bad PIM features).

And yes, international text messages should work.

How about the Mpx220???

Posted by: cartoon_soldier

Well, I don't go to India that often either, I just though it might be good to have a phone that works there.

Ahhhh...the more posts here, the more confused I get between 6230 and 6620.

How similar are 6600 and 6620?

The 6600 is very similar to the 6620. Just the 6600 is 900/1800/1900 and the 6620 is 850/1800/1900.

I would probably wait for the 6682 and get a cheap 900/1800/1900 phone or quad band phone for traveling to India. In America for Cingular, you will want to have a phone with 850//1900 for best reception.

What??? Apparently you don't know your Nokias! The 6620 has stereo output...more storage...faster processor. There are a few differences between the 6620 and 6600!

Posted by: bodeh6

I did not relize that. I just thought that one was EMEA spec and the other NA spec. Well thanks for the info.
