an article on theregister.co.uk had said that while it is true that the P800 would be delayed until first quarter 2003 in the UK, it should appear in small volumes elsewhere in europe in Dec.

in T3 magazine, they did a little blurb on the P800 and said that the reasons for the delay were that SE was having problems getting network operators to complete the tests of the P800 on their networks- but, the P800 should show up in limited quantities in Dec.

and lastly, this month's issue of Wired magazine mentions that the P800 has a retail price of $600 (US)

600 USD isnt bad...
heck my iPAq cost me 650 and it aint even a phone

600.00 is about the right price for the P800 imo. Thats fair. GJ SE

Same here.

That's much more reasonable than someone who offered it for US$2,800 each not too long ago.

Save US$2,000+ by waiting couple month isn't bad at all.

Allen I said right from the begining that 2800 was a retarded price for those P800's. No matter how much money you have to blow. It's just plain stupid. Having alot of money to burn is great but, not spending money wisely never changes no matter how much cash you have to burn or not. Thats my take, and I would never get raked over the coals and over pay that much for anything, no matter how bad I want it. Its just a matter or principle.

they were PRE PR0DUCTION UNITS!!!!

and of course that was a pretty bad price to sell them at.

LOL, as far as I am concerned, pre-production handset should worth less than production models. Just take T68m/i as example, how many firmware releases will take SE to make it perfect even after it is released to general public?

And don't tell me it has any collectable value neither.

Posted by: zerowind

Yes but Wolwol is still has it right. There are those who really really want the p800.. whether it's ready or not.

If you have only 5 to sell and 100 people all want it, you give it to the highest bidder... and if the top 5 highest bidders want to pay $2000+... well guess who gets them?

For us normal people, $2000+ doesn't make sense but as a business man... (and most of them are sharks) it makes perfect sense...

There's the whole category of consumer called "early adopters." You know, the ones who bought the first HDTV's... the first digital phones, the first ____.

I'd definitely create three categories of early adopters. Hardcore, importers, and First-in-line.

- Price is no object for the hardcore early adopters. I doubt any hardcore E.A.'s are members of this forum.
- "Importers" (remember, these are MY names), I'd say that some people from HowardForums are occasional "importers." It's not just about importing things from other countries... it's about buying stuff off of eBay, from non-traditional sales channels... LVWireless, etc.
- What I call "First In Line" E.A.'s... that's what most of us who think we're on-top-of-what's-out-there are. First in line to buy a Sidekick... a v70... buying videogames systems the day they're released.

Paying over $2000 for a P800 is gonna put the buyer in the Hardcore category. They're not nuts... just rich. Don't be jealous. There's always the guy who bought the Ferrari station wagons!

I know this is a bit of a digression from the topic... sorry.

I want one today whether its ready or not...I want gadgets as soon as I hear about them and usually don't care how many times I have to take it in for up grading...
