Thinking of Trying Out Nextel

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm in the Central Florida area, and a lot of my friends here have Nextels. The DirectConnect is the only thing good I can see with the provider, but it's starting to make me think about trying it out for a year. My friends say service is just "okay" and spotty when it rains (which is all the time this summer). I'm with Verizon (NOT under contract) right now (vx6000) and I have zero complaints with the phone or my service. I would just like the convenience to DC my friends all day for free. Anyone have suggestions? Is a switch worth even an experiment for a year? Which Nextel phone would be a good option (necessities: outside lcd, downloadable ringers, color screens)?

well ask 1of your friends to switch phones for a day. I mean If you have good service/coverage and phone you shouldnt take what is it 200dollar fee?
Your choice but if you do go with nextel I would go with the motorola i860
There phones arnt like high end at all. I think they only have one camera phone. I personnaly need a phone to show off.

30 dollars after rebates. I would get it If i had nextel but then again i woul never get nextel.

When I got my Nextel I had 30 days to bring back the phone and cancel my service without being charged a disconnect fee. So check to see if they are still doing that. As for the phone, if you don't want a camera look into the i836. It's a good looking phone, looks better then any other nextel. If you want a camera phone go for the i860. The i275 is also a camera phone but the screen doesn't look good outside.

If I were you I would stay with Verizon, nextel seems to run more along the interstate, I checked them out to and coverage was no where as good as verizons. I am currently with sprint on a month to month and can not wait to get rid of them.

do the 14 day trial and see if you like it. if not, go back to verizon. if you want a camera phone with a good outside display, get the i860. the i850 also has a camera. free incoming is what convinced me to get nextel, and i must say i'm much happier with them than i was with t-mobile.

I know this is a month old post, but if you still wanted to try out Nextel especially for the DC, you could give Boost Mobile a try. They are the pay per use service that uses the nextel network. You could get it just for the DC, and not have any contract, just refill your minutes when you want. www.boostmobile.com

cs stinks. With Nextel ive been with them for four years stay where your at unless you got money to throw away . most of the plans require two years for phone discount .phones are alot of money for what you get

Agreed....stay w/verizon....if you're feeling like an upgrade pick up a new phone...but I'd stay away from Nextel if Verizon works for you.

The first phone to fail you in a pinch will be the Nextel 99% of the time...because it's impossible to roam...even in an emergency. At least w/Verizon you've got emergency backup.

I think I work in about the only place in the universe where Nextel coverage is better than Verizon....Which is why I'm an unwilling customer of Nextel. I miss my verizon phones terribly ....Everywhere else in the universe provides better coverage w/Verizon than Nextel.

Besides...I would think this would be a bad time to go to the Iden technology...w/the Sprint takeover of Nextel.

Don't worry about investing in the iden system...it's gonna be around for several more years, regardless of the sprint takeover...and i must say i'm with nextel solely for the DC.
