How To: AIM on RAZR V3

Before you continue with the steps below be sure to make a back-up of the mma_ucp file located in the /a/mobile/system folder and also SEEM 0032_0001.

Done on a:
Carrier: T-Mobile US
Phone: RAZR V3 (Black)
Flash:R374_G_0E.41.C0R
Flex:SE8609AXXJ804C

I also attempted this on the 9CR_GSMV3xxT674TA09E_flexlash_MOTOX but was unsuccesful at connecting. I don't know if the flex has something to do with it but when I flexed it back to SE8609AXXJ804C it worked.

MATERIALS:
-P2k Menu Editor
-Motorola Phone
-USB Cable

PROCEDURE:
1. Connect phone via USB cable.
2. Open up P2K Menu Editor
3. Wait for it to connect. (Connection status is at the bottom left)
4. Once connected click on Open Menu > Open from phone.

5. You should now be able to see your current menu configuration. We will be replacing the IM menu.

6. Select the IM menu then go to the Menu item name drop down list. AIM should be the first one. Click on it to select.

7. Your menu configuration should now look like the one in the pic above.
8. Now save the newly configurated menu onto the phone by click Save Menu > Save to phone

9. The phone should automatically restart after it saves. Check the menu to see if AIM has been loaded. If not, then continue with the steps.

IF AIM HASN'T BEEN SEEM ENABLED:
10. Click on the Hidden Menu Items tab.
11. Click on Open SEEM > Open from phone

12. You should see which hidden menus have been enabled/disabled.

13. Click on AIM to enable it.

14. Click on Save SEEM > Save to phone

15. The phone will automatically restart and you should now have AIM available.

NOTE: You should have some kind of WAP/Internet access before doing this.

in your pictures, where "IM" is i have Phonebook. Do i still change Phonebook to aim? aim is enabled in the hidden menu.

No. Don't change the phonebook. Do you have an IM icon anywhere?

so there is no way to utilize the generic IM program that comes on the Black RAZR? i prefer not to do any editing of my phone. thanks.

No, but i fixed it, i just cant get my buddy list to load now. Im not sure if the problem is with AIM, cingular, my phone, or what. And its pissing me off.

I got the AIM icon on my cingular blue, but it still wont let me sign on. any suggestions? mmode works fine....

www.yamigo.com works with it, but you have to have port 80 open on your data plan.

dont you need to provide a gprs_apn? i dont know what that is. Im trying to buy the black razr from ebay unlocked and I want AIM on the phone. I think it asks for gprs_Apn

Yeah I have a similar problem, I SEEM edited my AT&T flexed V600 so that AIM would show up under Office Tools, it can "Send in Sign in Request" but when it does the "Signing into AIM as ** ..." thing, it does it for a while and then goes "Server not responding"
Any idea on how to fix this?

The AIM app only works on Cingular...not ATTW.

Really? ATTW used to sell lots of Nokia phones with AIM installed on em, my sister's LG even has it. No love for us V600 users

okay thank you I did register for it. and I downloaded p2k menu editor. It will not connect to my phone though. I have the phone connected to the PC via USB cable. Can anyone help me with that?

I just got an unlocked Cingular V3 and I'm using it on T-Mobile. I'm trying to use the AIM softkey too~ but under ISP settings it asks me for gprs~apn, got that, but also username and password. What do I use there? Not the AIM username... so what is it asking me for? Any other way to use AIM without going through the T-zones. Please let me know!

I tried to change the menu on a V975 and, after saving to phone, it was dead. It shows the Moto image and then restarts, over and over. I have a backup for mma_ucp. How can I restore it?

Hi what i'm trying to find out, is that, what program, u suggest i use to be able to edit my phone menue, and delete lock pic, and ring tones. I bought a cingluar V3, OFF EBAY. it came with an MPT softwear, but i can't do no edditing with it. only upload and download songs and pic. to it. i need somone to help as as to what i need my providing me wiht links and instructions to download thanks. as we all have a MOTO V3. also i have AIM on my phone but it failing to connect.

Under AIM...there is settings...which is ISP Settings. I have GPRS APN: wap.voicestream.com
then User Name: ___________ Password ____________ what do i put in the blanks??? Thanks

Or if you are on Cingular Orange, you could just download cingular's "mobile IM client".

Well I did everything you said, and it when it restarted it just freezes at the hellomoto screen.

dd you get a white screen and nothing else work?

if so, i think you have screwed up the menu (mmu ?? file). i experienced it once and i could not start the phone. the only way I could do was to flash the latest MP.

I did a search and found the Revive dead phone thread, went to bootloader (08.26), flashed the most recent motox thing and then restarted it and seem like i'm having the same problem as most people as to the keypad is blue but the screen is blank (black).

what should I do now?

hey guys i am having trouble.
first of all i have a e398.. very similiar to the v3..

i have the seems open for aim, chat and sync.. but none of these features work.

for aim it doesnt go into any menu.. when i select it it does nothing.
for chat and sync it says mobile qq has to be enabled.. but i dont know how.. isnt this aforeign thing?

i took off mobile qq and it still didnt work..

i dont know how to enable it. mma and seems are all on for these features.

i am also having problems with motomixer. i turned it on and it doesnt work either. seem and mma.
any sugestions?

I did it. AIM shows up now in menu items, but I get System Not Responding. Any ideas how to fix this?

I also experienced the same problems that Spud and Super did after following the directions and getting AIM. Phone seemed fine for a lil bit but I lost the carrier name and a bunch of things got added that shouldn't have and I double checked and there was no check marks in anything extra. Then white screen and it killed over. Took battery out for a while and then retried. RAZR wouldn't get past the HELLOMOTO start up screen. So I got a monsterpack and updated to the latest stable one. Looked at me computer and it was successful. Tried my phone and it was weird. I couldn't use the end button, I had some new things like a phone with a 1 beside it, Chat showed up in the Office Tools menu, Video Camera showed up in the Multimedia folder (which I'm not complaining about its alot easier to activate it now), in settings>Netowrk I have a new subfolder called My Network List and it shows a bunch of GSM providers from here in the United States ranging from Cingular and T-Mobile to iWireless and TexasCellular, also my carrier name went from its normal CellularOne to a new name of CellularOne DCS which I am thinking DCS stands for Dobson Cellular Systems which is the full name of the CellOne here. But I still could not get AIM to function correctly at all. Any ideas on how to get AIM to work period?? Cause it seems like the person posting this list isn't being very helpful in figuring out for other carriers.

I'm trying to get this going on my v360. I've followed all the steps in the 1st post and the closest that I've gotten to it is that the AIM icon showed up in my menu. However it doesn't do anything when I select it. I've done the seem edit to enable AIM and since it shows up on my menu I must've done that right. I made sure the file attrib. were 4 and 0 for their respective files. I can't find where I may have done something wrong.

Here's what I got:
T-Mo v360
S/W R4513_g_08.B7.ABR
FLEX GSTV360TMBO1NA104

I have been able to get both email and sync working and this is the last thing that I want to have running so I can stop tinkering with my phone for the time being.

Now this is just to clarify things for me. The built in IM app on the T-Mo flex charges you for a text message for every IM sent and received, correct? And using the seem enabled AIM with yamigo.com is free?

One last thing. Is there anyway to enable the ISP settings, that I keep hearing about, in the settings menu for the built in IM app for T-mo. I think that would solve all my problems. Thanks for any help.

Sorry guys, I lost track of this thread. Unfortunately I can't really help anymore as I got rid of the RAZR almost 2 years ago. I'm not really sure why some of you are having problems connecting, the only thing I can think of is possibly a driver issue. Also I don't remember the username or password. Sorry I can't help more.
