IM with my new s710a

I just picked up a new s710a from cingular. I must say its quite a nice phone. However one thing, just ONE thing I wanted it to do successfully was use AIM on it.
Course it has the built in client, but it practically doesn't even function.
1. It takes forever for my buddy list to load IF it even loads without me having to refresh my bl.
2. I tested it with my home computer and I sent about 10 IM's to my phone not a single one got through.
3. I tried sending a message to my computer and maybe about one or two were delivered.
What the heck is going on?!
