If I install the Cingular ROM on my SMT5600 will I have ENS...or is this feature hardware related???

ENS is software so yes if the Cingular ROM has ENS then it will be on your phone if you install the Cingular ROM...if you are on Cingular than ENS will help you alot, especially if you are using a 65K SIM.

What is ENS?

Enhanced Network Selection...it is the software the software the 64K SIMs use to balace the load on the former ATT wireless and Cingular towers..it helps you get the best singal possiable...well most of the time.

The Cingular ROM for the SMT5600 does have ENS. There are several new keys in the registry that are relevant to ENS.

Battery life appears to be quite short. Sometimes running out of battery power before the day's end. I haven't got any programs running in the background and I made sure my GPRS wasn't staying on with the installtion of Orange Shell. I have a 64K SIM. Is it possible that upgrading to the Cingular ROM would improve my battery life? I was just thinking that the phone may be searching more than it should. Not sure.

Any ideas????

Yes upgrading should improve battery life dramatically...your phone is constantly searching for networks..never stoping...because of this your battery is suffering...its the lack of the ENS software that you are having this problem.
