Better than the V3 or 6230? comments?

Almost as good as my 6230. I am generally on no bars at my house (low signal area) and haven't dropped a call. The 6230 seems to have less fading in and out in the same area.

I would not classify it as great - just good. For some strange reason my V551 has better signal inside my office (a granite stone building ), but never dropped a call. On occassion it goes into a network searching mode which I do not see with the V551. Another strange thing I noticed is that my SMT5600 takes a long time to regain signal than other phones - looks like we need to do something about the refresh cycles.

I would qualify the reception ok for the SMT5600, too bad that theses judgement are based on observation rather than strict testing, wish there was a way to conduct RF test for the consumer... heck every manufacturer boast "great RF" theses days. I would have to agree with george2350 that the SMT5600 take longer than many other phone on regaining signal after the boot cycle, a good 10sec after menue and pluggins are loaded...

My experience is nearly the same as the others just listed. The 6230 is slightly better. I have experienced the 5600 causing the bt headset to sound kind of garbled when the signal strength is down to 1 or no bars. I've had to disconnect the headset to continue calls where the 6230 will maintain the clarity. I've found the 5600 to be nearly a complete replacement of my 6230/Pocket Pc combo for normal use. I'm very pleased.

It's comparable to 6230! My friend has a 6230 and I have a SMT5600, and we both seem to have almost same RF performance.

I get good RF with my 5600, the 5600 gets better service with cingular then tmobile though cause of 850. I agree it does takes a while to get service on a fresh boot.

However a nokia 7260 I have that I am selling does get better singal strength then the 5600 on tmobile areas that I have trouble getting a signal in with my 5600 seems to be fine on my nokia 7260. This pisses me off cause I hate nokia phones.

Nice thing with my 5600 is that even with no bars I can still recieve calls and make calls without them getting dropped.

I've had both the 6230 and 5600. By far, the 6230 was better in fringe areas. The call quality, and ability to either pick up a signal or retain a call were notably different.

As I've had this happen with three handsets (5600s), I'm comfortable saying that I didn't/don't have a defective handset. I still use the 5600 as my primary handset, as I really like the Smartphone platform--but didn't want the grief of the MPx220.
