i think you have to pay more if you buy a phone for prepaid
correct me if i am wrong

how would they know? Since it's unlocked (RIGHT?), just tell them you want it as a second/new phone so you can put your old sim in. Why do even have to tell them it's for prepaid? What would they care?

Nope, the S40 from Fido for $375 is said to be LOCKED (which makes perfect sense to me). Unlocked phones are $500 from SiMPro.
Fido doesn't do contracts. They do, however, occasionally offer incentives for those who stay with them like $50 credit after 3 months on the new "Nokorola PiG99". But in this case, I think the S40 is just $375 flat, no credits or anything.

actually it should be 400... after a month and 350 for new activations.
Posted by: Okigire
Sorry, I don't follow... what should be 400, after a month whats 350?
Posted by: Brother Sky
oh the phone itself is $400 but if you sign up for a monthly plan you get a $50 rebate... therefore the phone is $350 on a new plan...
However, you can only order it through Fido direct.
oh and fido does not have contracts...

According to everybody else, it's $375. So, I called Fido and asked... it IS $375 and not 400. If you activate on a monthly plan, it's $50 off as you said bringing it down to $325.

err... yeah I believe you.
but thats an introductory price... just like the t28 was.
if it doesn't go up... then I'm wrong.
(oh....i'm so sick)

The Telephone Booth's in Ottawa (Carlingwood & Rideau Centre locations) have the S40 for $399 unlocked. I have no idea if that is before or after a credit with FIDO.

I just bought the S40 for 239.95 UNLOCKED and software version 3.2!

Thats about right. I see you're on VoiceStream so you'd mostly likely be payin in US$, right? With Fido, CAD$399 is about right. It's an awesome phone (though some SMS messages seemed a little "messed").

That's right, I am with Voicestream... They just did a softlaunch the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and a commercial lauch just after that...

Ooh, nice. Just wondering, what are the prices for the HANDSFREE down there? I'm looking for one that works decently (without hum, etc).
...just noticed that we didn't really answer the original question of contracts...
Fido doesn't do contracts, period. They may offer incentives for sticking with them, like rebates, but no contracts!

Hands free earpiece goes for about 30 USD and the "car" version that plugs into the cig adapter goes for 199 USD, (these are in fact original Siemens accessories).
Posted by: Okigire
Thanks, those are about the same prices, here... ~CAD$45. I heard some aftermarket ones worked well... the one I tried was utmost horrible.
If anybody knows a place (preferably GVA area) with a decent headset, lemme know!

Have you tried doing a search for accessories for the S40? a few websites that I did try are daydeal.com and http://store.siemenscordless.com. http://store.yahoo.com
Posted by: Okigire
Thanks...
The one from DayDeal.com didn't work well at all. I had a whole bunch of problem including a hideous "hum" that would not go away (that was caused from the interference of the phone signal). Horrible... looking for one without such problems.
The other sites you mentioned, well, it would be less to buy it locally. I'm wondering if there is anywhere with a lower price locally or somewhere that works well.
Cheers.

Sorry that I couldn't be more help.

No prob... thanks for mentioning it! I just wanted to let'ya know about DayDeal's product... I got their other accessories and they work like a dream, just the handsfree. I appreciate the links... thanks!

I did get the yahoo site to load using the following settings:
1. your ISP dial-up #
2. Conn = Analog
3. Data speec = 14400
4. User name = your Isp's
5. Password= yours
6. IP= 212.97.206.33 the other did not work
7. Port =9201
8. Homepage = http://wap.yahoo.com. this did load properly for me. I also loaded travelocity's, continental's and north west airlines wap sites successfully and was able to navigate through them.

Thats great that it works now!
I still can't get that Yahoo site going and personally don't care enough to keep trying (I have other sites that I use). MSN Mobile service... any luck with that? I can't access that either!
Posted by: dgk1964
What's MSN's wap site homepage???
thanks in advance
Posted by: Okigire
I've tried many combinations, all of which are listed at one place or another (at MSN's sites). Try:
mobile.msn.ca
mobile.msn.com
www.msn.ca/mobile
I get a 500 (internal server) error on all the gateways I try. I still have no luck with wap.yahoo.com. I can access UK's Yahoo with no problems though... *hmm*
