HELP! My phone has been hijacked with strange codes by my ex!

My husband works for a company that has an intricate phone system in place, and it is in conjunction with AT & T Wireless GSM. Anyway, for months now I have been having the strangest problems with my phone - menu items will suddenly disappear as if they weren't ever there, everytime he calls and leaves a message my mailbox stays enabled (as if I was accessing it from a landline and didn't press * to exit) and other things. I did enough research to find out that if he and his little C.I.A.-wanna-be co-workers (A.K.A. the Adulterers) were to link my phone specifically into their system, they could use the technology to track all of my use on the network (just like a system administrator would do while troubleshooting or auditing). ANYWAY, I found a bunch of really weird codes on my phone that were apparently received as text or MMS, does anyone know about this????? I would be happy to further explain if anyone thinks they can help.

best advice is to get an entirely new phone number!

Get a new phone and number and probably provider as well. Nah, don't want to suggest you to leave Cingular but make sure you tell them your problems with your ex.

Pot is a great drug. You should cut down on using it before you go crazy

Posted by: badkitty1

OK, is it really possible that two out of the four responses were to call me crazy???? OF COURSE what I'm describing sounds crazy, and OF COURSE it isn't something MOST people will have to deal with, but before you go and post a reply that doesn't help, imagine how damaging those comments are if this really is happeneing. NOT ONLY am I being violated, maipulated and stressed, I am now humiliated at an anonymous information forum that I turned to in time of need. WOW, good job, guys. Way to be progressive thinkers.
P.S., I already have proof that something is going on -- Cingular's fraud department is taking this seriously - I just wanted to narrow the context before I tell my husband that I know. So please try to be more responsible when you reply or don't reply at all.

"linking a phone into their system" can not alter the menu structure of the mobile on the fly.

This does sound like a legitamate problem, what type of menu items are disappearing? While this sounds like a real issue I don't think this would lead to menu items disappearing. A little more info may help. What has fraud told you so far?

There are viruses that can be put on to a phone and have it act up be doing certian things, like calling it and leaving a numeric page. That will and trigger the phone to do things that shouldn't. If it can recieve a signal and hold memory, you can put a virus on it!

Just my 2 cents.

it's a 3595. No accessible memory, no BT, no symbian. An SMS will not trigger the phone to do things that it shouldn't.

why argue with IHAP?

I used to use a 3595 myself. Not much that you can do with one remotely. So relax, no one is hacking your phone. As for the strange texts and MMS messages, SMS is used for lots of things, like voicemail notification and SIM updates. Normally, you never see these messages because the phone processes them itself behind the scenes, but you can sometimes end up seeing one when the network sends an update to the SIM. If the phone isn't handling SMS messages correctly, that could explain why your voicemail indicator stays on. The phone gets SMS messages from the network telling it when that indicator needs to be on or off. If it doesn't process them as it should, the indicator may do strange things. And those control messages might very well end up in your inbox as messages full of jibberish.

I'll bet that you either have a bad SIM or a bad phone. Has Cingular tried replacing your SIM? That'd be the first step. If that doesn't work, you may need a new phone.

EDIT: OK, after rereading my post, I may have mis-spoken when I said SIM updates are done via SMS. I was thinking of the texts that some folks used to get that said "OTA OK" when they got an update.

for once I'm not arguing. Just debunking the thought that someone has hijacked a mobile or something

if they are, this is a monumental moment in cellular history

Get a new phone, phone number and SIM card, just for peace of mind.

just so you know, the others said "crazy" and "paranoid" because half of what you described is not possible. going item by item...

"menus disapearing" assuming this is true, then your phone is defective and needs to be replaced. your husband has absolutely no way of modifying the menu's available on your phone.

for your voicemail - I'm not sure I understand your problem... but change the password. sometimes the vm indicator just gets "stuck" and tech support has to fix it. but make sure you change your password to something he would NEVER guess. it is possible for him to change your password, and then put it back - but he wouldn't know what to put it back to. so if your password changed you would know it was him.

track your usage? - well, they can definitely track all your phone calls, but there's about a 12 hour delay. They can see who, when, and how long - that's it. However, thanks to a service called e911 a cell phones exact location can now be instantly traced within 400 feet. However, this info is only available to some 911 operators if (and only if) you call them. It is also available to Cingular tier 1 tech support and possibly the fraud dept. However, no outside source has access to this stuff (afaik)

bottom line though - for peace of mind and personal security - get a new phone, new sim, new number. and talk to customer service about adding a special password to your account.
