Need Advice On Picking A Phone.

Well, It's come to the time of renewing our contract and getting new phones.

I've figured that I could get an S710a for around $100 or a V3 for around $50(After some eBaying).

So, I've wanted an S710a for a long time, but I've wanted a RAZR for a long time too.

I like the features on the S710a, though some of them I doubt I'll ever use(Class 10 EDGE for Example, with the Way DATA plans are).

The cameras nice, though ever since I've use a 6620 I've wanted something small and actually phone size. I like the RAZR because it feels very well put together in my hand, though it doesn't play nice with a mac.

So, I don't know which one to choose. Advice?

Oh, yea, also, which one has something like CellTrack(On S60?)

I have had both the V3 and now the s710a. They are very different.
My opinion:
V3 very thin but wide. Felt like any little slip and I would drop it.
Great screen!!!!!!
Very LOW ear volume.
Camera was typical motorola.
Nice keyboard.
I returned it because I couldn't hear anyone on the phone.
RF stable but average.
Good battery life 2-4 days
good bluetooth
excellent build quality

S710a
Much Thicker and heavier.
Great GreatGreat screen.
Nice menus ( I really dont know what the problem is with this " lag issue".
mine works just fine.
expandable memory up to 128mb ( mp3s, photos )
Decent camera
Great volume!!!!
Feels comfortable when used open. RF is much better when opened.
Edge is twice as fast.
Rf is decent( jumps alot) It has always been that way with SE.
Great phonebook!
Good battery life 2-4 days
Great bluetooth
includes headset and card reader ( Nice!!!)
excellent build quality
Ability to record both sides of phonecall.

These phones are very different. One is thin and the other thick. If you will use it for phone calls only I would definitely rec. the s710a. ( louder, better phonebook ) The speaker phone was slighly louder in the s710a, but only slightly.
If you are looking for a smaller phone definitely go with the v3. You might not have a problem with the volume issue.

In conclusion , if you want one with all the toys, and I mean all! Go with the s710a.
I am fairly happy with mine. It is a nice device, but then again so was the V3.
Neither is perfect.....but what is!

P.S. If you go with the s710a get a screen protector on ebay.

Based on what you wrote, I'd say take the Moto.

SE = $100.00; Moto = $50. Advantage: Moto.

SE = doesn't feel as good in hand; Moto = feels good in hand. Advantage: Moto.

SE = EDGE; but you have no need. Advantage: Moto.

SE = Plays well with a MAC (assumption); Moto = doesn't. Advantage: SE.

SE = you want; Moto = you want. Advantage: draw.

Overall advantage: Moto.

Plus I like Motos better anyway, so that's my recommendation.

One more thing......

I previously had a v551 and my wife and son still do. In comparison the 551 outperforms the V3 in RF and it seems to hold a call a little better than both the s710a and V3.

It also a nice little phone. Consider that one also.

Thanks for the quick responses.

I've never really held the S710a, only a dummy model so obviously it'll feel worse.

Earpiece Volume is a fairly big one for me, though I care more for the speaker phone.

Which one has a louder ringer volume?

I know the one thing that I'd like about the S710a would be the camera. and at least the size is more reasonable when compared to my 3620(nearly an inch and a half shorter!. Thickness about the same)

Price is a fairly big object for me, as I want to buy a car, course I'd have to go through eBaying(I'd get the S710a, ebay it then buy a cheap eBay V3).

Agg, I hate making decisions like this. I can decide computers and monitors and everything else, just not phones.

Once again, thanks for all the suggestions.

EDIT:
What's the durability of them? I know my nokia is nice because I can drop it on carpet and such, though I've also dropped it on concrete from a couple feet up and it's fine.

Thanks

Ringer volume on both is good. But hands down the ringer on the s710a is MUCH louder.
I have mine set lower than the max for the first time on any phone.
It will wake the dead on Max. volume.

As far as durability I really dont know. I will tell you that using the V3 I felt as though I could drop it easier. The s710 and v551 are more comfortable to hold for me.

If volume is key them the s710a is amazing. If style and size are the V3 is cool.
The v551 has a little of both.

Good luck and let us know which you decide upon!

Hmmmmmm.

Can't you SEEM edit the RAZR?

I have no idea how and have no intention of every screwing with the software on any of these.
I guess alot of people do though.

I tried the V551 for a week. The volume was too low. I finally gave up on it. And I *really* liked that phone, too. I had trouble hearing people if there was any ambient noise.

I did *not* like the swivel form factor of the S710a. I still don't. I did not like its size, either. But the data speed got my attention. The volume, both speakerphone and normal, is excellent.

The Cingular Rep that I bought the S710a from said the same thing about the V3 -- the volume was too low, and she couldn't use it.

Despite being put off by the S710a at first, I love it now.
