Nokia 6230 questions

Ok, I am going to sign up with Cingular this afternoon and have pretty much decided on the Nokia 6230. Can someone please explain or point me in the right direction for a few questions that I have?

First of all, I understand that it is possible to watch movies on it ( even though it has a small screen). What is the best way to get them on the phone? I know I will need the Nokia software, but I also need a cable right? Sorry if this is such an easy question, but after reading so many posts, I have truly confused myself silly.
Also, how do I go about mp3 transfers to the phone? Do I need a few different cables to do all the things that I would like to do? I like the idea of using the phone as an mp3 player while I am at the gym.
Another question is, if I buy the correct cable, can I use my phone as a wireless modem to my pc or laptop and get pretty good speeds with the $20.00 unlimited data plan? I would have gone for the Nokia 6620, but the 6230 has a better connection speed from what I have read. Maybe in the future I will get one though. For now, I like the size and connection speed of the 6230, can anyone comment on any of this? Thanks so much.

For any type of data transfer, you need to have a DKU-2 data cable. It can be had for very cheap on eBay with the software. You also need a huge MMC memory card for the phone if you plan on putting things like movies and lots of MP3's on it.

The DKU-2 cable will help you do all of the activities you mentioned above. You don't need separate cables.

The 6230b has class 10 edge, which is the fastest available right now. Looks like this phone would be a great choice for the things you want to do. good luck.

Thanks for the quick response, I just got off the phone with a Cingular rep, she said that I couldn't tether the phone to a pc with the $20.00 unlimited data plan. She said that is only for use on the handset itself and that I would need a $74.00 data plan to use my phone as a wireless modem. What is the real story with this?

THAT is what CSR is suppose to tell you.
JUST get the unlimited Data for $20 (it should work)... then just CHECK back here in HOFO and the information to tether to a PDA or PC is readily available:

username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
password: CINGULAR1
phone# *99# or *99***N# (where N is 1, 2 or 3)

HTH

THERE are only a handful of anecdotes that SOME have been charged for doing this (I have not) but make sure you are using the apn wap.cingular and NOT isp.cingular... AND that they have REMOVED Pay Per Use Media net... that has been a common billing error for most HoFoers...

Thank you all again for the quick responses. Am I correct to assume that the 6230 will have a faster connection while tethered to my PC than a 6620? Is it that much of a difference in speed? Man, I really like both phones and can't decide!
