Cingular replaced my MPX220 with the Audiovox SMT5600. I need the phone unlocked to use it in Europe with D2 SIM card. Now Cingular is telling me that they can't unlock the SMT5600. Any suggestions?

Like I said, I unlocked my phone, put another SIM card in it, and I was ready to make phone calls. I guess this one way to test if the phone is inlocked, am I right?

If you did unlock the phone and you put a non-Cingular SIM (i.e. T-Mobile) in the phone and you successfully made a call, I'd say you're good to go.
