thanks for the tip

Posted by: bus_driver

the link says 15.99
how did you get it for 6.99
and is it @ all future shop

Posted by: celldude

are they good quality?

Posted by: honda_boy

Damn..waste my gas..updated..you have to apply for mail-in-rebate...gosh..

Posted by: Lagos

really, they sold it to me just for $6.99+tax....no mail in rebate or anything like that....

Posted by: Frightguard

Yes, it was originally $19.99
on sale for $15.99
mail-in rebate - $9.00
--> $6.99

however, a few locations were messed up with the rebate forms so they just made the mail-in rebate an instant rebate and charged $6.99 right at the register.

Lagos, what location did you shop at?
*just re-read your original post, Weston & 401

Wow! Looks like you got a great deal!

Hey, Futureshop.ca has a new look!

The quality of the SmartBuy CD-Rs are decent.
they are your average generic silver/silver(dunno what colour it really is yellowish-silver?) but with a writeable surface.

If you go to Spadina/Chinatown, there are many stores that will sell generic cd-rs such as these, usually 12$ + tax for 25
20$ for 50
and 30$ for 100

and usually, find unbranded ones, or ones wit a logo and writable surface, but still the same price, too expensive to buy these generic stuff, if the recording surface was different colour, it would be worth buying, but unfornately, it isn't, so why pay more for less, if you can get it for 6.99, then it's a deal cuz it's cheaper

don't trust people who say CDRs are good/bad quality, especially if they don't post the ATIP info : ).

by the way, bad quality is bad quality and good quality is good quality regardless of what dye type is used.

Posted by: AndyLHoang

wow!
$6.99 for a 30pk!

hehe this remind me of the time when I bought some pencil crayons for abboyr $3.00 at Walmart but I decided that I needed more so I returned them and they gave me back $5.00 instead of $3.00!

BTW, I don't like the new design of www.futureshop.ca

Aiight Mr. SmartyPants

Smartbuy 32X certified, 80min:

ATIP: 97m 32s 19f
Disc Manufacturer: Prodisc Technology Inc.
Reflective layer: Dye (Short strategy; e.g. Phthalocyanine)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
Nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

Information was gathered using Nero CD-Speed with SmartBuy media bought in September of 2002 at Sonnam, and it has the same packaging as the one as futureshop, so unless, the company changed dyes within the pass few months, this info is correct then. I will stick to my claim of decent media!!

Posted by: celldude

where do you find this information about cdr's?

Posted by: Superzero

can Nero CD-Speed, or CDR Identifier or CD-R ATIP Reader, insert your media into your drive, and programs differ, but basically read the data

Posted by: wamtt

Which of the CDR identifier program works for USB external drive?
I tried CDR identifier but it does not work for my USB burner.

Also, $6.99 is good price for 30 and Prodisc makes decent disc. Last week, i asked my friend to get me a spindle of 50 Fuji CDR (TY) from Best Buy for $2.99 USD after rebate.

Posted by: Superzero

Well, if you went to the same site i did(which i do not know if you did but......

"not all CD-Writers are able to read the ATIP. Most CD-Writers from HP, Mitsumi, Philips, Plextor, Sony & Yamaha are able. The Teac CD-R55S is not!", dis was for CD-R Identifier

but try CD-R ATIP Reader, and if it doesn't work, then you burner is unable to read the atip

Posted by: obsidianic

yep, prodisc has a good rep ... i do wonder if smartbuy will keep providing prodisc discs in this package though (eg. buy now while they are still prodisc because you never know when they might be some other company).

but see what i mean ... the ATIP is what people are interested in ... even if the ATIP can contain fake info : ).

Posted by: obsidianic

oops, before any flame wars start, i better make it clear that i meant faked ATIP info by the manufacturer, not by some user posting fake info : ).

Smart buy is a great choice at this price. I have mine 16X **** to write @ 32x speed without any problem!!
