Eminem - Lose Yourself
It's resampled at 64k (down from 192), stereo, 20 seconds long and about 176k in size. For a ringtone, no noticable sound quality loss.
It's the main chorus (starting at "Lose yourself in the moment..") and fades out.
If anybody wants it in mono, smaller bitrate, let me know....
Moderators: if this isn't kosher, let me know and I'll take down the link...

For the ringtone creators (or anyone interested in creating their own mp3 ringtones) out there, I used Audacity, a free mp3, wav, ogg sound editor that is available for Linux, Windows and Mac.
Pretty cool software, packed with features that you'd find in a pay software app.
I've used it almost from the project's beginnings (back when I was running Linux) and watched it grow to a kickarse application.

Hey. I live in Costa Rica. If I wanted to download a ringtone, where should I go?

I love ICE (my provider). But international companies don't. It's easier to pay with credit card from nicaragua than from Costa Rica. Can you believe it?

The guide provided by the threadstarter do longer displays and I searched a gread deal of the pages in this thread and could find no mention of a mp3 cutting program.
Also does anyone know any programs that facilitates the reduction of the bit rate of mp3 songs?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Anyone know where I can find a copy that I can put on my new phone?

powermp3cutter does it just perfect, you can buy the full version, but it is totally not nessecary since the demo lets you cut out up to a 1 minute chunk out of wav and mp3 files as well as convert wav to mp3 among other features, perfect for making ringtones
I've been using it for quite awhile and have never found reason to use another when just cutting out ringtones.
Then there is always the www.walmart.com option for getting precut mp3 ringtones as well lol

Does anyone have a ringtone that sounds like the red alert alarm from the Defiant on Star TrekS9?

Can any one get the voice from Madagascar where the king lima says"Waking waking rising shinning mister alex".
That would be cool set for an alarm tone.

It looks like this thread is all about asking questions that don't get answered. But I will try. Is there any kind of program that you can convert mp3 sounds to imelody or polyphonic whatever the t637 uses. Kind of bummed it doesnt support mp3. I have seen several programs for converting RTTL stuff but is all pretty cheesy. Thanks for any help.

A tiny, very light freeware proggy to cut mp3s down in size (any size you want) is mp3DirectCut .

It has a built in player and a peaks and valleys graphical interface which makes it extremely easy to pick your begin and end points down to the millisecond. The sequence of commands, for those who may have a hard time figuring it out by themselves, is:
File > Open
Locate desired starting point
Set begin
Locate desired end point
Set End
Cut
Edit
File > Save selection

Enjoy

I've been using this baby for years!

Oh, and did I mention... IT's absolutely FREE!

edit:
as for bitrate, if you can find an old copy of Total Recorder lying around, you can cut the bitrate down to 56kb, while enhancing the volume by whatever percentage you like. Works like a charm. I often get mp3 bits that I love to use as ringtones or message alrets, but they are awfully low volume. After a spin in Total Recorder (normalize volume), the new soundbits come out better than anything already on the phone.

Posted by: christomapher

MP3 Surgeon Pro is good as well, I use it. It is not freeware but you can get the crack using serials.to ...

http://www.mp3surgeon.com/mp3.php

I use that one all the time, and its great because it has optional volume normalization, so ring tones won't be too quiet or too loud that they distort the speaker. Easy to use if you are any kind of smart.

this web site is really good, it sent me my own mp3 file and my own pictures from my computer to my phone in picture messages. I used my free uploads and then bought an unlimited amount of uploads for a month for only 3.99 It;s definetely better than paying that same amount for just one ringtone from a company.

Hey my friend!

Um... It would be easy to do, but it would take alot of time to edit each of those tones. Just tell me exactly which one you want to be louder and I will edit it for you.

Cheers,

BTW guys, I have a huge collection of sounds and tones, and I am very good at mixing and editing. So if any of you want a specific tone made, just request for it, and I will see what I can do.

BTW, at motomodders there is a whole request line thread for tones.

I'll take you up on that offer. I need a really subtle ringtone that'll get people thinking, "WTF was that?" "Did you just hear that?"

Can you make me a tone of a kitten's meow.

Something like.. "meow" 2 second pause "meow" 2 second pause "meow" 2 second pause.. for about 45 seconds?

Thanks~!

There's some free poly and audio ringtones here:

The site is in danish, but it shouldn't be any problem as to where to click... just click one of the main categories, and you'll see a table with all the files within the category.

Click a file, and you'll hear it - right click and choose "save as" to download, og access directly via your phone using the WAP URL standing below each file.

If you're looking for sound editing software, I would suggest that you visit

www.goldwave.com

A friend of mine has this program and showed it to me. You can download
a trial version and if you want to buy a license it's only $55 Canadian, which is about $49 US.

This thing looks like it does everything!
Download the trial version and check it out.
If you're going to spend money on software, you might as well get
something that does pretty much everything for you!

You can create a mp3 ringtone without installing any software

1. Go to the following site
www.2mobo.com

2. Click the link, "create"

3. Follow the link, "create realtone", and then use the web based tool to crop your MP3 file and create a ringtone.

4. You will receive text message with a link to download.

HELP, please... I thougt I was pretty savy 'bout 'puter stuff... I've read through pages and pages here... can't follow the "imy and emy" threads....
I have a new Treo 650 and a new RAZR v3 and an IBM ThinkPad... ALL have Bluetooth... my carrier is Alltel (if that matters).
I want to be able to search for rintones on the web via my laptop, and then BT them to my two phones...
I don't want just "tones"... (which is all I'd think one would get from entering "keypresses" ?). Would like to use midi files if possible... as I understand it, both of my phones support polyponic (and, I think mp3 ?)
Would like to use an EDITOR program so I can "snip out" the portion of a file/song that I want to use, and then get it onto the phone, and then assisgn it to a specific contact entry.
Thanks !!

I just got a V3m. My carrier is Verizon and I have the mobile office kit.

How the heck do I get ringtones in this thing other than buying them through Get-It-Now with Verizon? I have some .WAV and .MP3 files I would love to make RT's out of.

Even a link to a FAQ on this would be great. The included tones leave a lot to be desired.

I am picking up a microSD card for it, but not sure if I need it unless I will be playing MP3 songs (Probrably not).

The 3m is the same as te 3c wtih a memory card slot. I don't have any Bluetooth devices to transfer the files. I can however get a microSD card and put files on there. What format of files will the phone accept?

i'm lost about transfering mp3's as ringtones, games, or edit any XML file IN the phone, i have a 2 in 1 USB cable which i tried to use as the USB Cable for the Sony Ericsson Z520a phone but it does not work to update the firmware with the Sony program, UpdateService_Inst_2.6.4.9.exe, what i am trying to do right now is to transfer some games i have on my computer on my phone, trying to remove the camera noise, upgrade the ZOOM since the zoom only goes to 2.0 instead of the 4.0 zoom indicated on the phone and i am trying to create my own ringtones since i paid for nothing for stupid ringtones i dont like and which dont even have a real person voice singing, i need real songs. I'm new to all of this phone scene, been on this forums since i got back from work today at 5:30pm, it's 9:26pm, i unlocked the phone 5 days ago, that's pretty much all i did on the phone besides changing the faceplate... any help on what i am trying to do now is apreciated people.

Anyone know how to listen to the ringtones from SE's website?

When I select 'Listen to Ringtone' from my PC browser, all I get is a little pop-up window, and some notes dancing around - no sound.

Does it only work via the phone?

Posted by: aah_tree

pm me i can make u any ring tones u want and any volume, i just need u to send me ur mp3, and around where u want the song to be cut, and i can save it in any format to you free or charge.

all beacuase i been in this damn forum for 5 years now lol

Posted by: b00tang

guiness I have the same problem... and I also know some people know how to download themes and ringtones off the sonyericsson web page straight to their computers without downloading to the phone (and wasting money on bandwidth), but I can't figure out how to do it myself. Anyone know?

Posted by: b00tang

well at least part of the mystery was solved for me by dckl. I messaged him and he said:

Heya,

It's really easy, just a bit drawn out. But I got the direct link from the wap version of the site: http://wap.sonyericsson.com/fun/mxh...&dn=W810i&lc=en

Select the country > themes > theme of choice

When you're on the page of the theme you want, click on download, and it'll download a file named "dd". Once that's done, open the "dd" file with IE/FireFox/etc and on the top, you'll see the link for the direct download. Voila!

I guess it works on all the other free stuff from the site, but I've only used it for themes and ringtones. You can change the phone and location at the bottom of the main page, and get other themes/ringtones/etc.

There's no need to login, but if you want to, just use your login/password from the regular SE page, if you have one.

Hope this works! If something doesn't make sense, just ask.

*Cheers*

so thats pretty cool. now i'm going to try using a different browser to see if i can hear those darn ring tone previews

Posted by: guiness

I was able to hear the ring tone previews using IE as opposed to Firefox. When I went to the site, it asked me to d/l the Adobe Flash plugin, so maybe FF doesn't realize it needs it.

I'm going to try and manually install the plugin in FF - don't know if it supports it.

b00tang - I tried dckl's method, and it didn't work for me. I'm not getting the 'download' button.

You're asking in a thread with quite a few free ringtones available for download>?
Anyway, most forums have a nice selection, especially HoFo, check out the other manufacturer sections, whether its a moto, samsung, nokia or sony, for the most part they will work on any brand so long as they are mp3 ringers. VxxxStuff also has a massive request, download thread for mp3 ringtones. And of course you can also easily make your cuts from your fav tunes, or even use google.

Posted by: inferus

whats all this about rttl or i-melody? 95% of new phones supports mp3.
is there anybody that's preffering to use old mono tones for their phones?

the solution is quite simple if you don't want ot pay for your ringtones, simply download any mp3, and you can, 1 transfer the entrie mp3 to you phone or, 2 cut the song into the lenght you want and then transfer it to your phone.

or you can convert the mp3 into aac fromat witch i much smaller and the transfer it onto your phone.

or just pay to download the ringtones, its' hassel free!

Posted by: montsb

First things first. The ringtones you can buy typically sound like total CRAP!!! Not to mention, some people switch phones around qutie a bit, and don't want to pay for a ring tone everytime they switch phones or one of their phones die.
Secondly, my phone, like many others will not let you use a full MP3 song as a ring tone. You have a method for making MP3 songs into ringtones, why don't you post that instead of slamming others for their attempt to help people that actually read these forums for educating themselves.

Posted by: inferus

well , you can find a tool, for cutting your mp3's here http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ it is free.
there's a lot of these programs out there.

i would also like to say that the ringtones you buy is not all crap!but i work in this biz so don't take my word for it...

looking for this ringtone - heres the thread

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1067634

If u can make that ringtone, u r teh bomb!

its the sound after the text....when samus is standing

Posted by: schneller

Okay, so how do I make my OWN ring tone? I know how to edit music, compress it to MP3, and transfer it to the phone.

What I do not know...

1) How long (in seconds) can a ringtone be?
2) How large can the (MP3) file be?
3) Which bitrate can I use to compress the file (192, 256, multiple)?

I assume I can just save the MP3 file to a certain file on my Z710 and then be able to set it as my default ringtone...

I just created a ringtone based off of a favorite track of mine, plus two variations.

Who can guess which track I used?

Each is in 64 Kbps MP3 format, 17-19 seconds in length.

Normal Version (153 KB)
Variation: Low Bass (153 KB)
Variation: Fast Tempo (135 KB)

I suggest looping them when you play.
