9500 Firmware update in US

I have a 9500 that I purchased from expansys-usa. I was one of the first dozen or so to get one in the US.

I understand that there is now a Firmware update available. I emailed Nokia as to how to get my phone upgraded in the US, and they sent back a rather terse email basically saying get lost, you have no warranty in the US.

expansys is not answering posts on thier support forum relating to this issue, so I don't think they are going to help me.

Interestingly there is a post on My-symbian that seems to suggest that the phones are shipped to Austin, Texas for the update.

Any suggestions?

Should I plan a "European Vacation"?

Should I ship my phone to the UK so that Nokia can ship it to Texas?

Any help appreciated.

i guess it depends on what the firmware update does. if its important i guess then we need to find a way to get nokia to honor the warranties..

It really does depend on what it does though. There isn't much I can honestly complain about at this point...except maybe a sometimes, seldomly staticy Bluetooth connection.

I bougt a J.A.P. box (www.odeon.cn) on the internet and was able update my 9500 (bought in Asia) to version 5.22.

Called Nokia this morning in Tampa and spoke to a helpful rep. Any authorized center should be able to flash your phone with the firmware provided they have it. Called 3 places in the Orlando area and they don't have the 5.22 firmware. So the only option is to ship it to their Melbourne facility to have the software upgraded or there are a few places up north (MA) that will do it for you as they have the latest firmware.

I just dont want to ship my phone so far.... I love this baby already!

5.22 is the latest version, should be able to do blackberry on it

Yup the phones get shipped to TX for the upgrade.Mine has been sitting for close to 2 weeks in Melbourne relaxing while they get their butts off and decide to ship it to TX. With the possibility of a hurricane in TX they stopped shipping phones to the facility so I called Nokia and asked them to ship me back the phone from Melbourne. I'll rather pay the $30 and send it to iunlock.com and have it back within 2-3 days rather than the 10-15 business days Nokia quotes.

They suck!
