Hello,

I searched and see that a third party app can be used to get mp3 ringtones, but I wanted to know if there was a way to convert mp3s to midi? I am thinking along the lines of what is done for the Motorola V710.

I am in my 15 day trial with the T650, so I would like to get this working beore having to return the phone.....and of course, without paying $20 for Ringo.

You are cracking me up. There might be programs that can do what you want but then wouldn't you end up paying for these programs anyways? I guess you can search and may be find some freebies.

The Ringo Pro is actually very good for using MP3 for phone tones. It is user friendly. I use it myself and highly recommend it.

I do have to agree on one thing, while this Tero 650 is a very good device, it requires a lot of 3rd party software to make it Great. I am also spending way too much money on the apps beside spending way too much time playing with it.

I found that Ringo Pro wasn't that good. The combination of Lightwav and Pocket Tunes was much better.

I have Pocket Tunes and Aero installed and I have no preference of either. I do not use the Treo 650 as a MP3 player. I already have 2 very small MP3 players using flash memory and one with a 20 GB using a hard drive.

Read my reivews on Epinions, if you are curious.

One only needs a single apps like RingoPro to enable the Treo 650 to use Mp3 as ring tone. The RingoPro works as intended. Using Lightwav requires Pocket Tunes. If the purpose is to use MP3 as ring tone, RingoPro gets my vote.

I found that Ringo had far fewer options for ringtones than Lightwav.

That might be true since I do not have any experience with Lightwav but then RingoPro does what I need. It is a standalone product that does not need another player. Even though I have both Aero and Pocket Tunes installed on my card, it is just there. I don't really use them that much. For people who just need an app to play MP3 as Ringtone, RingoPro gets it done without paying for another app which might not be needed.

True...I just liked the higher stability of lightwav and how it is much more customizable

I just us a program called Phone Technician... its 8 bucks to register, but i dono whats the point, cause all it removes is this reminder to register... and that only comes on once in a blue moon.. so basically its freeware... so you can pick a mp3 tone for your ringers or for you txt message sound... pretty good for a simple program... i havent spent one dollar in 3rd party software yet.. there is always a freeware that work just as good...

I just got the Treo 650 a couple of days ago...
Love the phone!

I don't know if this will work with large mp3's but I just emailed my favorite mp3 ring tone to my cell.
When you open the message it will play the sound. Press the menu key and you will see the option to "Save Sound", then it will ask you to confirm the file name.
In my case the file name said "OldPhone.qcp", I changed it to say "Old Phone" and then went to Preferences and sounds and there it was! I selected it and it works great!

On another note about this subject, for some reason I tried this with another file that had a space in the filename and when the phone recieved it the phone immediately reset itself. When I opened the message the sound was not there.

I renamed the file to a name without the space and it worked fine.

Hope this helps.
