Mini kx2 review.

I got this phone a week ago because I could no longer stand my Sammy A670.

RF: Reception on this phone has been outstanding. My neighborhood always had 1-2 bars or sometimes even no service with my Samsung. With my Koi, it's always had atleast 2 bars. Right now at my house, my Samsung has 1 bar and my Koi has 4.

UI: I love the clickwheel type interface. Everything is laid out and fairly simple to use.

Call Quality: The call quality has been vastly improved from my Sammy. Friends say I sound alot clearer. However, I find the volume to be just a tad soft, however I do have a minor hearing loss, so go figure. Also, the half-duplex speakerphone sucks. I can't stand not being able to chime in when someone else is talking.

Battery: The battery life has been acceptable. Sometimes with heavy use with the camera, or get it now, the battery indicator drops low, but after ending that task and leaving it idle for a bit, it goes back up. It was on no battery for 45 minutes and still didn't die. Quite impressive.

Messaging: Everything is fast and simple.

Camera/Video: I've actually been quite disappointed here. The camera must be used in sunlight. That's it. The flash only makes the picture look washed out. The video actually seems acceptable however.

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

I have another week on my trial, but I'm not sure I'm going to keep the Koi with the E815/8100/6256i all coming out soon. If the phone retail wasn't so expensive and I had some extra cash lying around I would keep this phone just for the uniqueness factor. Everybody loves it && my girlfriend absolutely loves it

Thanks for the review, whydoesvzwsuck. I am seriously contemplating on purchasing this phone. But I don't know now if I should, since the VCast network was just released here in upstate NY. So now I wonder in the long run if I should go along with this EV-DO thing.

But I do have a related question about the KX2, does it fit well in your pockets? I don't like belt clips and the size seems suitable, but I wonder how it is when pocketed. Too bad the VZW stores won't let me test pocket their phones!

I'd think this isn't really a pocket phone, but I'm an opinionated SOB.

It's nice in it's ways. Kudos to Kyocera, they're really positioning themselves so that all their equipment will feel intuitive. Smart move, a phone that's easy to pick up and use is easy to get addicted too.

Using the phone without swiveling it open is keen. It's a pretty big beast though. And my first thought at the swivel idea was "How in the manual steering do they expect that to last?" but Kyocera, hardware kings they are, showed me not to doubt. It's a darn solid swivel. Spring loaded, too. Can't really tell it (IMO) by playing with it, though I think it really makes it feel like it's not going to start spinning in your hand like a party favour.

Great phone if you don't mind the size. If they would have added removable media it would have rocked. BT would have been grand too. But I'm being demanding again, bless my American attitude

Are all speakerphones half-duplex like that?
