Free 2Gby AOL email account

I was wondering if anyone is using this email.

You get free IMAP (even SSL on it) which works quite well.

I just can't send email by using their SMTP server. Getting always 'access denied'.

I find more than strange that you cannot change password on their webmail site. If you want to do it you need to install their bloated browser.

I have it and so far so good. How do you set it up for IMAP?

Server type: IMAP Mail Server
Server: imap.aol.com
Port: 993
Check 'Use secure connection SSL' altought it works without it but on 143 port.
User Name: Your nickname

Where do you sign up for this free email service?

Apparently to change pasword you need to go directly to https://my.screenname.aol.com
as 'AIM Mail Is Here!' link will not give that option.

To register/login go to:
https://my.screenname.aol.com/_cqr/...%3amail.aol.com

or simple type http://www.aim.com and click on 'AIM Mail Is Here!'

I am able to get my email on my Treo but can not send out. What are the settings for the outgoing SMTP? I get the following error:

550 MAILBOX NOT FOUND

I created a AIM user name and that automatically gave me the aim.com email

That's why I created this thread to figure out if SMTP server is down or simple not available for free AIM Mail service.

Even on PC I cannot use SMTP.

It would be weird if they allowed IMAP and not SMTP access.

It wouldn't be that weird. Most providers (with some exceptions) require you to use your local smtp (being your ISP's SMTP server). Some ISP's even block you from using any SMTP server except theirs.
