I have one of the first 6620s that came out for AT&T running the original AT&T firmware. I am on cingular and now want to use the 6620 but a few bugs bother me. My understanding is that the new firmware have fixed a number of the things I see, so I am considering getting the firmware upgraded.
The question is do I go with the lates Cingular FW version 4.22.1 or go with the unbranded 4.22.1?
There are some feature differences I am aware of such as MP3 ringer and locked browser. I don't care about the ringer stuff, but the locked browser might be a killer. I have some more research to do there as I don't yet understand exactly what "locked" means. Surely Cingular does not prevent you from using a different brower then the one they bundle in.
I suspect that the Cingular version will have ENS, but from I read here..so what, I don't really need that (I have a 32k SIM too). I am sure that either one will work, but is there any reason to believe that the Cingular FW version will "work better" as far as finding the best signal and having the clearest calls etc. My biggest concern is reception.

The unbranded will provide with the Mp3 ringtones.
The Cingular branding does not do anything special for you other than you have the data settings. ENS is only revelent in certain areas that have not changed the AWS towers to 310-410 and were blue & orange mixed markets. A lot of areas already have updated AWS towers that have the 310-410 so ENS will do nothing for you and eventually ENS will be like beta max.
Go with the unbranded.
