best IM client for a 650

I would probably be focusing on AIM more than Y! and MSN. But is there any that someone could recommend? I've been hearing some horror stories about some AIM clients crashing their 650's and want to try and avoid that.

I use VeriChat and love it. It does AIM, MSN, ICQ, and Yahoo. You can have it stay connected all the time via SMS or your data connection, whichever you prefer, or you can have it connect and disconnect as you wish. It's very stable from what I've experienced so far (over the past 3 months). There are several others, though I do not have experience with them.

I don't know since I'm using Verizon, but I think it uses Internet. It has an option to send you texts while your phone is on stand-by. I don't have a messaging plan but I do have unlimited internet, so I have it set to only work on Internet.

It's entirely up to you. You can tell VeriChat to remain always-online using SMS or DATA.. which ever you prefer. Or you can have it not stay always-online and it will only be active when you go into the program (and it will stay active until you choose "signoff and exit" from the VeriChat menu).

It annoys me that they charge a yearly service fee to use it.
It's not a technical issue, it's purely a marketing, money making thing.
My license is up in a few days and I intend to look for another solution before buying into the Verichat thing again.

This kind of business model works just about as long as no-one has a usable alternative.

It will continue to work as long as their software works extremely well and they keep updating it so it includes all the features that everyone wants. There are other alternatives that people can choose to use, yet people still buy and use VeriChat. They must be doing something right!
