Ok guys. First thanks to all your posts here. Based on the reviews here, I bought a SMT5600 phone. It works great. But I wonder if I should return it to Amazon and get another phone. The facts that it's not a quad-band nor a flip-phone bothers me more and more. I don't need features such as mp3 player and other smart things the phone does.

So would you guys please suggest me a phone that has the following features:

Quad-Band (I travel abroad occasionally)
Good Reception
Flip_phone
Ablity to Sync with outlook for Calander, Contacts and Notes.
A camera (need not be good) if possible

Or should I stay with 5600 itself?

I was looking at the reviews for V3 and found that it has problems synching with outlook. Further I dont know if it can sync up with the outlook notes which I need to store my little notes.

I know 220 has all the above features, but I'm very hesitant to get it after reading all the issues/problems with it in this forum.

I look forward to your suggestions. Thanks in advance.

if you must have a flip-phone then your only option is the mpx220.

i'd be hestitant to get it too. i had one. the smt5600 is a much better phone.

I say to each his own.

I played with a 5600 and to me it did not feel as good as the MPx220. Again this is my OPINION. My MPx220 with 3.46ROM is the best its ever been, STABLE, VOLUME, GREAT SIGNAL before the 3.45/3.46ROM I had some issues with Netowrk but ever since I upgraded it has been (3.46) the best ROM.

Phone Finder at www.phonescoop.com is a good resource. Here's a link to all available phones matching your criteria:

http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/fi...f56_11=y&f20r=r

The mpx220 is the only one that is a "smartphone". Apparently all the other ones sync with a PC - but i'm not familiar with how it's done or how well it's done on phones other than smartphones. I'd be interested to hear anyone's experience with this.

You can click "Edit Search" at the bottom to change the search criteria (apparently most "flip-phones" are classified as "clamshells").

I was helping a friend with his SprintPCS phone, the only options are with third party software. I opted for snapsync, which only syncs contacts, no Calendar syncing.

I have to agree with medenblik. I owned a 5600 a few month ago when all of the issues with the MPx220 where at their peak and was sooo happy with my 5600.

However, since picking up my MPx220 a week ago and flashing to the 3.45 ROM I have to say I have been very impressed. No voice quality issues, in fact no issues of any time.

I have Bluetooth paired up with 3 different devices (Bluespoon 5G, BT Activesync, CoPilot GPS) and all works perfectly.

I use GPRS to synch directly with my Exchange server, synching every 30 min during peak times and manually all others.

So far I am very very happy with the MPx220 and it is the best MS smartphone I have owned.

Thanks you guys for all the nice suggestions.

autigers20, thanks for that great link.

Well, nice to know that mpx220 works great for some. I'll wait for a couple of days, look if there are more suggestions here and then I'll go for 220.

I also have to find out from Amazon that if I'll still get the rebate if I return the 5600 and get a mpx220.

Thanks again guys.

Let me jump on the MPx220 rocks bandwagon. I didn't like the SMT5600. Not quad-band, camera blows, feels chincy, etc.

I have had the MPx220 since the day it was released at Best Buy. I've loved it since then and have had no problems. Every FW has improved it a little bit more. The latest Asian ROM is by far the best and most powerful...

I highly suggest it.

But if you can wait, the new HTC Magician is the way to go. PPC phone, quad band, as small as the JAM, QWERTY keyboard, EDGE, WiFi, BT...

the Magician is also speculated to have an OMAP processor which is currently less then the current Jam which will be the show stopper for me. The 6315 uses a similar processor and there are many complaints about overall speed for people doing more then just PIM. (Yes I have a 6315 also )

Is that going to have Wireless built-in?

That has to be something most everyone will want in a smartphone, to be able to hit any wireless hot spot

Both of those devices are PPC phones not Smartphones but yes both will have built in Wi fi

I think you need to also look at the phone book memory available, the number of contacts and if notes are supported compared to your database size. I don't think many non MS Smartphones with Outlook Sync will Sync the notes. Make sure of that feature if it is important to you. The previously reported issues with the MPX 220 kept me away from it, but the latest rom seems to have fixed most issues. The average consumer will not know what hoops to jump through to achive the unlocking and rom upgrades if you are unfortunate in the supplied rom. It is unlikely that the Amazon Purchase (likely Cingular) can even supply someone with what firmware is on the purchased phone until it arrives. The providers C/S persons never seem to have the information that consumers need to unlock their phone and make it usable overseas. My suggestion, Purchse an unlocked MPX220 from a reputable seller, know what firmware that it ships with or ask for it to be upgraded prior to purchase. Then go to your nearest Prefered Cell dealer, and take their free phone if you are starting new service and keep it as a backup.

sorry for the long post!

autigers20, Your phone selector link is a great suggestion, btw

Thanks guys again!

Thanks Hitch for those great suggestions.

Well, I thought I can update the firmware myself with a web download and need not depend on the firmware that comes with the phone. Am I missing something?

I cannot get the kind of rebate that I'm getting from Amazon from any other seller. I plan to get the phone unlocked through someone in e-bay.

There is one more thing I noticed with 5600. Being a candy-bar phone, I can't keep my mouth close to the microphone and talk in a low voice. Being used to a flip phone where the person at the other end can hear me even if I whisper, I feel more urge to switch to mpx220. How I wish that 5600 to be a flip-phone and quad-band as well! The most beautiful things are not always perfect in life! :rolleyes2
