Upgrade ROM - Phone Won't Boot

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Well, I took the plunge and upgraded my phone to 3.46. Unfortunately, my phone won't boot. I get the moto flash screen, then the blue M, but nothing else. I have searched the postings for help, but I didn't find anything. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks,

It takes a long time for the phone to boot up after a ROM update...If it hasn't booted up in 5 minutes then you should remove the battery, wait 30 secs and replace the battery and power on the phone...I should come one. I had this happen to me before.

Thanks for the help. I did as you suggested, but no luck. Phone just stuck with big blue M on screen. Any other suggestions/ideas? Thanks,

Do a hard reset. Power off the phone, then hold down the blue button and the power button at the same time. See if that works....if not you will have to reflash.

Well, I finally got my phone to reboot, but I had to go back to 1.43. Neither 3.45 or 3.46 would work on my phone. I followed the directions on your blog about the opr files, etc. Any ideas on why I could not get the Asian ROMs to work?

YOu can't mix .opr files with the Asian ROM's only with the US ROMs can you do this...

That was your problem...You tried using a different .opr than the one that came with it. Try flashing to 3.45 or 3.46 with the default .opr that comes with the ROM.

I guess I need to make a note of that on my blog...I thought I did.

OK, that must be the problem. However, what happens if you are not using a Cingular .opr file?

Yea as soon as I read that you got stuck on the blue M I knew you were loading a franken ROM. You can't mix ANY files with the Asian ROMs. I believe it is because the chinese font is tightly integrated into the ROM. Just upgrade to 3.46 and do all of the reg tweaks. If you need all of the GPRS settings for AT&T, I have a CAB file that I can email you that once it installs, you'll have ALL of the AT&T settings you need!

Thanks for the reply. I will let my battery recharge and try a "pure" Asian ROM update.

Posted by: Omega2008

You will have a chinese .opr but don't worry all of the gotone branding, the font sizes, and the homescreen can be changed. Just go to my blog and read the post about the Asian ROM tweaks...it tells you everything to do....and do get that .CAB file from drizze99 it will make setting up your ATT data settings a breeze!

Does it matter if I use the ATT settings on a Cingular phone?

Posted by: Omega2008

Remember the only difference between the ATT MPx 220 and the Cingular MPx 220 is the carriers .opr files that are attached to the ROM. So if you have a Cingular branded phone (it says Cingular at the bottom) but you want it to be ATT branded with the ATT apps and settings then you just use the 1.430 ROM with the ATT .opr.

You can use the ATT data settings on a Cingular branded phone. You can use any GSM carrier's data settings on any ROM remember the .opr just brings branding for its respected carrier and adds certian carrier apps (like mMode and Media Net links and registry edits)

Take note that the 1.430 ROM has a locked registry meaning you can edit some keys, but the 3.45 and 3.46 ROMs have totally unlocked registries which gives you more control.

Sorry to keep bugging you about this, but since I cannot use a Cingular .opr file with the Asian ROM, what will I be losing?

Posted by: Omega2008

Cingular branding, and the MEdia Net home page, but thats ok you can just create a favorite and call it MEdia Net and use this URL:
http://www.infospace.com/info.sbcw/wml11/index.wml

Other than that, you lose nothing else really. You gain alot with 3.45 or 3.46.

Better BT connectivity, BT COM port set up, BT ActiveSync setting, faster, more stable OBEX...better OS stablity and alot more......

Thanks! I going for it, again.

Posted by: drizze99

email sent. I sent you a cab file for both Cingular and AT&T settings.

if my update to 3.45 phuks up lol, and i cant boot and stuff, can i use the offline updater to go back to 1.43? THanks for the info, i just dont want a phone that will be a paper wieight

When you update, don't mix ANY files with the Asian ROMs and you will be fine AND yes, you can go backwards as well.
