Im going to takemy pohone to italy for my vacation with my parents this july, and i was wondering, if i up my rom to 3.45, using chinese branding, can my fone still work in italy using the CIngualr World thingy cuz my fone aint unlocked to i need to use the cingalr thing in italy that costs 1.30 a minute. but will it still work with aisan 3.45?

thanks

Yes. Just make sure GPRS settings are correct if you plan on using the data plan (if you have it). How long have you been a Cingular customer? If it has been more than 90 days, you can email them for an unlock code. You are better off getting an unlock code and buying prepaid SIMs in Italy.

What part of Italy are you going to anyways? My parents are from there. I have visted there many times. It's a beautiful country.

There are no Italian branded ROMs............

I had used it in Italy without a problem. Actually I was amazed at how much better my phone signals were in Europe than in the U.S. Well, not too amazed. In my European travels to Europe (cycling 420 miles in Ireland and then just taking trains around Italy) I had used a couple different rom versions and they all worked without a problem other than having some issues with sending MMS messages. But I didn't care about that.

Yes...just put in a non Cingular SIM and it will ask for the unlock code.

when i use the italian sim card, i dont have the same number as i do know right? its gonna be some thing wild like country code, plus area code plus the italain fone number and bla bla bla right?

so if my friends want to call from LA, they need to use long distance correct?

if i do it the cingular way, my phone number is the same where ever i go in the world, and they diont even need to enter an area code

Correct. When you use the Italian sim card you will have a local number (local to Italy of course). Your friends back here will have to call long distance. So they will have to call 011 39 (39 is Italy's country code) and then the number. I was on vacation so I wasn't going to be calling much but I used data to check my e-mail and didn't run too high of a bill while I was there. Depending upon how long you are going to be there there is some long distance package the Cingular rep said that was available that would give me cheaper international roaming costs. I was thinking of taking it for a month but decided not to. I don't remember what it was... But nevertheless the phone worked beautifully there. Since I spent most of my time calling the U.S. I just decided to keep the Cingular sim card in there. So I don't really know how getting a local sim card works. And if you keep yours you friends will still call the number like they do now.
