BB 7750 Vzw as Phone ONLY no data no email

OK, first, I'm getting a new BB 7250. The 7750 is not bringing enough on eBay to be worthwhile so I'm going to pass it to my wife for her to use as a PIM and phone. Verizon does have a "pay as you go" BB plan and if you don't "go" you don't "pay".

I have removed the web browser and any other app that would use data. I have removed all the service books from the unit and disabled the web client by removing the PIN for this BB from it.

Email sent to it does not arrive, email sent from it won't go, I get "No message service..." errors. It's been 4 days and nothing has passed according to the Vzw data counter.

While it looks like I've done it... can anyone suggest what else I might do to insure it doesn't somehow come back to life?

Is there something I should watch out for?

I never expect to upgrade the software as it works fine as it is.

Thanks,
Robert

If there is no data package on the phone plane the BB will operate as just that a phone with PDA functions, that being said some carrier do require a data package to use a Blackberry on thier network NEXTEL being one of the notable.

I agree with the previous poster. All you needed to do is make sure that VZW does not have a data package on the line, that all. No data package mean no data.

Vzw will not activate with "No Data Package" they do have a free + pay as you go plan.

... that said... I'm using my existing plan to swap over to my 7250 when it arrives... I own the 7750 outright... I don't see how Vzw can force me to have a data plan on it just to turn up phone service. There will be no contract on anything.

It looks like I've nailed it down, still no data traffic and my plan is running in full force except for the mods I mentioned above. With my wife's plan, if I do have to have a plan I will not setup the web client... don't see how it'd ever find me then.

I thought my original message explained it very well, I'll leave it to you to go back and read the details. In short, I upgrade, pass old 7750 to wife who only needs PDA = cheaper than buying her a PDA.

Next, the BB 7750 is NOT a Mercedez, it is more akin to a Yugo. I'm SO happy to be rid of that thing. No comparison to the 7250 and as a bonus I don't have to reset the 7250 weekly.
