SMT5600 Battery life

What is the battery life of everyone's SMT phone?

I took it with me yesterday, and started the day at 59%. (I have the XP2003 home screen installed, so I have a convenient numerical display of my battery life, in percentage.)

The problem is, by the end of the day I had less than 5% left...and I didn't use it much. In fact, the phone did an auto-shutdown. Only about 30 minutes on the phone, yesterday, and I was in Dallas so I assume I didn't have to transmit at high power, or something, to reach a tower.

So, how accurate is the gauge in that homescreen...it seems like the lower "half" of the battery capacity disappeared awfully quickly.

I'm trying to decide if I have a problem with the battery. I usually get 3 days, or so, and use the phone minimally. Yesterday was a "heavy use" day for me.

I think for a smartphone the 5600 is quite good. My Nokia 6600 lasted about 2/3 as long as my 5600, so I'm quite pleased. I'd say with minimal usage, you should have at least 4 full days of charge.

My concern is that, even with minimal use, it dropped nearly 60% in one day. I haven't charted out the discharge rate, but that seems like an exceptionally large drop in a relatively short period of time.

Bottom line, is this type of drop common, or unusual? It went from 59% to under 5%, with only about 30 minutes use, in a single day.

If you have bluetooth on, that's why right there. My MPx220 can go 3 days with B/T off; however, even with minimal usage with my headset, my battery is kaput in less than a day

The SMT5600 has an excellent battery. See my review on the SMT5600 for my firsthand experience with battery life. A full day of heavy use... music playback, video playback, notetaking, a good 8 hrs of use and still plenty of life left.

Nope, no bluetooth. I don't have a BT headset, or any other BT devices, and I checked...it's turned off.

So, I can conclude that I have a bad battery.

Do I call Cingular, or just take it into a Cingular store?

I charge mine everyday since I'm on MSN 27/7.

Here's my experiences when comparing the SMT and the MPx. I keep BlueTooth on ALL the time on both phones. The SMT will last twice as long as the MPx. Personaly, I think the MPx's battery life is sub-par. I can get about a day and a half with the SMT and barely a full day with the MPx. Now, I use about 3500 minutes a month, so I do use my phone quite a bit.

my battery life is excellent, specially after i let it drain completely. i've found that the more i've used my phone the better the life of the battery is. this is a very good phone, i would recommend it to anyone.

I bought my 5600 used and had a similar problem for the fist week or two of use. I power cycled the battery a few times, and these days it runs a whole lot better. I still charge it everyday, since I use it for movies/music for about an hour on the subway which eats up juice fast, but it has excellent longevity on standby.

The SMT5600 has the best battery ive seen. 1050mah stock battery wich gives me over 2 full days of heavy heavy crackhead like use.

I'm letting my battery run ALL the way down, before recharging...figure this should increase my battery life.

It takes a while, though...I don't use the phone very often (100 minutes total, this month) so it takes a while to run down. When I do use it, though, it seems to run down very quickly.

Ought to be interesting to see if the battery's condition improves or deteriorates.

is it possible to get a longer lasting batterie for the SMT5600, it comes out of the factory with a 1050Mah. Ebay'ed the question and only found 850Mah. Are there bigger/better ones availlable to the SMT5600 form factor ?

None that I've found. To make it worse, because of the SMT5600's quirkly connector, USB external battery extenders don't work with it.

The 850 batteries work fine... I paid $8 for mine (from a reputable eBay seller) and it is a good emergency "back up" battery.

Wirelessly posted (AUDIOVOX-SMT5600/Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; Smartphone; 176x220))

i would get a brand new factory battery. cheap no name batteries just dont last as long. 1050 mah is the lowest grade you should settle for.

I had some crazy battery issues once I switched from the ATT ROM to the Cingular ROM. Went from 2 days normal usage to less than 16hrs light usage. I noticed a few postings both here and over at MoDaCo to that effect, so I tried the only recommendation I could find; full charge followed by a hard reset. Now my battery life is better than what I had originally. Up to three days now normal usage. A hard reset after a full charge may be worth a shot for all of you having problems

I've found that the programs I'm running matter too. I installed an alarm clock program and found that my battery drained from full to 20% in about 12 hours. Without it, my battery life is more like full to 80% in 12 hours. This is with bluetooth off but GPRS on (AgileMessenger).

Check for applications that might run in memory. For example, I had Newsbreak downloading news all the time (every few hours) from many sources which would eat up a ton of battery from consistent GPRS usage. Removing it fixed my battery scare (but not my news craving). If a hard reset doesn't help you with your current ROM, then I'd get a new battery direct from Audiovox or a company like Original Wireless.
