Cheap Cingular Phone with Good Reception? Wife Mad!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I left Sprint because they billed me an extra $170 every month. After six months of fighting that I went with Cingular. I have the a s710a. It has pretty good reception.
I got the wife a Motorolla V180. She tends to loose phones. This phone drops calls, she get voicemails a day later and it doesn't work in the house. She is really not happy. What would be a good alternative phone I could buy for her on Ebay that gets good reception?

One question: does your phone work well in places you wife is having trouble? I ask because then you would know if it's a phone or a network issue. I also ask because you mentioned that she was getting voicemails a day later, which usually indicates a network issue. If it's definitely a phone issue, get a Nokia, such as the 3120.

I know she drops calls constantly. She says it happens everywhere. I almost never drop a call.

I don't deny that; I just wanted to make sure that your phone works where hers doesn't. By the way, your location would help me (or anyone) to better answer your question.

Try switching phones (or rather SIM cards). If that makes a difference, then it's definitely a phone issue. Even so, does she have a preference: clamshell/flip, candybar, camera, no camera?

A good cheap phone with good reception would be the nokia 6010.

But as iGambit pointed out, alot of your problems indicate the network and not the phone.

She really doesn't care about anything but having a phone that works. I'll try the sim card trick. I had not thought of that. Thanks for all the help so far.

Do keep us posted, I would like to see where this ends. In the meantime try also asking your local rep if there has been any reports of network problems locally and perhaps a little more detail from the wife on how often this really is happening. Good luck

If it is indeed a phone problem I would agree on the 6010 or if she wants a sturdy clamshell with good reception you can't beat the z500a.

My sister was dropping calls left and right on her V551. I thought it was herr phone was acting up. Then she left herr hone somewhere so I left her use mine to call a friend. She kept dropping the call when I knew my phon e was fine. I then saw how she was holding it. She was holding it on the top and also blocking the antenna. That could cause dropped calls.

just go to cingular.com and buy the c207 prepaid for $30 shipped. Throw away the cingular pre-paid sim and pop in your wife's sim.

Thanks for all of the great input. I'm going to get a 6010 off of Ebay. I'll report back.

hehe.

I ordered 3 V180s for my family, they were hacked the next day with a new flash, the reception now is very good. My sister gave me hers(she's sticking with her X426) and I'm using it till I get my replacement S710a, it's not as good as it should be.

I hope my next one's better.

The 6010 is great, also if she maybe wants a speakerphone then the 3120.
