Will this 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter work with a MPX 220?

Posted by: juliej5

I don't see why it wouldn't, since the mpx220 is a 2.5mm jack as well...

No, it may not work correctly with a MPx220. I believe the MPx220 uses a non-standard 2.5mm audio connector to allow for the 2 channel audio (stereo) and microphone. I know for MPx200's that standard 2.5mm -> 3.5mm will only give you mono audio out of the earphones, and I assume this is the same for MPx220's.

Interesting information that you have there. So what do you suggest? Also are there any sources to backup your claims?

Dude it is 10 bucks! buy it and see if it works. If it does great, if not you're only out ten bucks.

Motorola sells a stereo earphone set that also has a microphone built in. You can get it at Moto's website. I have it and it works pretty good. It ain't Skull Candy but it works.

Do a search in this forum. There is a post that links to an e-bay merchant that has the correct plug. You need the one with the three rings. Otherwise, to get stereo you have to pull the plug part of the way out and it does not make a solid connection. I had one of the radio shack connectors and they just didn't do the audio justice.

I did the search. Here is the link to the thread. Follow the e-bay link to the merchant's online store.

I was hoping for an adapter similar to the one on Palm's website. I don't really want anymore wires. All I want is just the adapter cuz my earphones are pretty long.

I have only found the proper adapter with the cable. If you find an adapter that will work with Motorola w/o a cable, please update this thread. However, you may find the extension cable helpful. I use mine with a RF transmitter which has a very short cable, and is sometimes difficult to position well for the best reception. The slack in the cable will make things a little easier to manage.

Good luck in your quest.

I got one of these

I had to cut off part of the plastic on the 'male' part of the adapter to get it to go in all the way. Works well after the adjustment.

Sgt,

Have you used the Palm-style one?

I've got one for my treo, and while I don't need any extra cable either, I don't quite like the big lump hanging right off the bottom of the treo. Plus my headphones have a right angle plug...so it makes things even more strange.

An extra 4" of wire will probably work better I expect. We'll see, my adapter and MPX220 should be waiting for me at home when I get off of work.

Oh, I ordered mine, looks identical but $2 cheaper shipping, from here:
