im a total noob when it comes to wireless phones, im simply a user. ive been with att for at least 4 years now and dont plan on switching (other than the eventual migration with Cingular) currently im using a Seimens S56 which has been good to me but as of late ive been having lots of stupid issues (shutting off, VM notification not resetting, etc) so its time to move on. all suggestions/brands welcome even tho ive had terrible experience with build quality with nokia and samsung in the past but im not going to rule them out based on a model i used 4+ years ago. ok so my two most important features are RF and Battery life. other than that i might have a use for bluetooth in like 2 years but thats about it. cameras and all that other jazz are cool and i would play with them if the phone happens to have that but, it isnt the least bit important. bar or clamshell doesnt matter. I use this as my gateway to the world, its my housephone/mobile/personal/business phone so i just need it to work without issues. any advise you guys could offer would be great. oh and i live in Philadelphia, Pa and travel to central PA so both bands are a must. if ive forgotten anything please post and i will respond. thanks in advance.

if you want a basic phone no bells no whistle great rf great battery go with the nokia 6010. my wife has amoto v551 and she love it i have the audiovox and that phone rocks but its kind of pricey. it really depends on what you want. try a phone if you dont like it return it within 30 days and get another one

unfortunately in my experience a month isnt a good enough timeframe to really test a phones true character. which is why im hoping to take advantage of others long-term experience. thanks for the suggestions i will start looking into those phones.

I have has the Nokia 6230 for the past week and am really happy.

Voice is crystal clear, Loud Speaker rocks, Reception is good.

Me and my buddy both have cingular, I have signal in his room, he doesn't.

Easy to use, IMO an extremely good phone for 99$.

Just my 2 cents

had moto v551 for 8 months...not impressed
spearkphone is average, reception again average, screen is nice
UI is the same as all moto's- stupid
durability- less than average

recommendation: unless you can get it for less than $49 with a plan don't waste your time
6620 now for 2 weeks....superior phone in every way

there is a strip of road when i had the v551 where i would not get reception..either the call would drop or the person on the other line couldn't hear me. for about 1/2 mile.... now with the 6620 i drove through that spot twice today and didn't have an ounce of problem going through, it was as clear as a landline (on 1 bar)

Get the Razr, simply the best phone for reception. On top of that, you get the cool look. It's almost free now with new contract if you buy it from Amazon.com.

How much are you looking to spend? That will drive a model choice.

I can tell you from my personal experience that Nokia rf ROCKS. The two Samsung handsets I had constantly dropped calls. Both my Nokias hold on and get reception in places the Sammys didn't. The V551 we have I think is about average overall. Battery life SUCKS on that phone plus the OS is so overly complicated and slow. Battery on my 6230 is okay for a feature rich phone. That is one thing to consider since you said battery life is important to you. The larger screens and additional features suck battery so if they're not as important to you go basic. For example my 3120 lasts for a week, but my 6230 doesn't on the same battery. I will say that the Samsungs did have a great battery life.

thanks again everyone please keep the suggestions coming.

dobiegillis-
i consider "good" battery life somewhere in the 2-3 day standby time. my S56 standby for two days which is nice if i dont have a chance to charge it but 99% of the time im charging it every night.

Oh well I get nearly 2 days on my 6230 with A LOT of bluetoothing. I use about 1600 minutes a month and I'd say 3/4 are on the headset. I charge every night to be safe and have a car charger as well. The V551 is about the same but we have that dreaded Moto battery indicator problem (supposedly from improper battery break in) so it will show half charge and then suddenly beep low battery then die. VERY frustrating!
