How do I get a Dev Key

Posted by: WebbyBabe

You have to apply for one at www.danger.com. I think that's the site. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Wirelessly posted (your electric?: BlackBerry7520/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/5.1.2.12)

You are going to have to a lot more then just apply, you are going to have to also submit a program or proof that you are in fact a developer. Its not like it used to be where they where giving them out like candy.

Does this make your warranty void?

Posted by: jgeorge

It voids your software warranty, so you can't call CC and ask for help or assistance with application problems, and they can charge you an out of warranty fee is you trash the OS on your device and have to replace it. Your hardware warranty still applies.

in order to get a developer key, you have to upload a working application that you wrote to Danger so they can tell you actually are capable of developing for the device.

Doesn't have to be a "finished" app, doesn't have to be a complex app, but it has to be an app that does something in order to prove your ability as a developer.

Question: Do I need to be actively pursuing catalog distribution to be approved for a developer key?

Answer: No. While we would love it if you wrote an application with the intention of distributing it in the catalog, we certainly don't require this of our developer community. All we ask is that you be actively involved in application development on the hiptop platform.

No, you're missing the point here. It's not that you have to send a bundle to get a key, is that you have to send a bundle that you wrote to get a key.

Sending a bundle in that someone else has already sent in will very quickly get your account disabled from EVER getting a key. I strongly recommend against downloading a bundle from SKDR and uploading it to Danger as well.

Danger doesn't want to see that you know how to upload a bundle, Danger wants to see that you are capable of MAKING one.

Joe (and don't just compile one of the open source apps out there either, that's missing the point as well)
