I just unlocked this sucker... the SMT5600!

I just unlocked the SMT5600... using this site and I know that one of the benefits of doing this is being able to stick in any SIM card in it, and the phone should work, at least the phone part, am I right? I am new to the GSM world, so bear with me folks.
What other benefits should I expect?

How can you tell if you are locked or unlocked ?
I have smartione loaded and the security menu pick reports that my SMT 5600 is 'unlocked'...is this correct information from the smartione software ?
