Question 2 phones vs. my current

I currently have a att branded v600 with ATTws. My contract is up next month and I want to migrate to cingular so that i might get a new phone. The 2 phones i am deciding between seem to be a audiovox smt 5600 and a nokia 6230b.
My question is this, do both of these phones get at least equal reception to the v600 and hopefully better? From what i have heard the 6230b reception is second to none, but does the audiovox at least get as good reception as my current phone? my second question is do both of these phones allow you to manually select a network so that i may "cherry pick" the cing. blue network in some areas? Both of these phones will remain options as long as they get = or better reception, both of them have to have a better designed UI than the v600!! the hardware people at motorola seem pretty good but i think the software people go and smoke crack while the hardware people are working. Thanks for any responses.
And one last thing i know this isn't the proper forum for this question but i figured i would tack it on. If i let my contract expire will it remain month to month or will they automatically move me to cingular orange?

if your contract expires, yes, you will automatically go month to month. there is no such thing as automatic migration.

pretty much every newer phone you come accross will get better reception than a v600. this model was notorious, was recalled by cingular, and was replaced by another model, the v551.

Yes, the 6230b will blow your V600 out of the water both RF and battery wise.
