V551 Cingular Proprietary Format

I purchased a V551 through Cingular. Obviously the phone has been formatted by Cingular. Being new to media phones, I had no idea the amount of crippling of functionality users thus far are willing to put up with.
I erroneously assumed since my phone was capable of taking pictures, I would be able to download them to my computer. Am I wrong here? I have no problem syncing my v551 to my Powerbook. I see three folders. Pictures Audio and Video. I can upload pictures to my phone but I can not see or download pictures to my computer. Is there a work around for this? Is there a software hack to restore functionality? I see there are so called flex patches ect. I resent not being able to control the flow of my content. I have no problem paying for Cingular services rendered but crippling functionality to reroute content through Cingular should be my choice.

I never had one of those Motorola phones, but on my S710a pcitures taken with the camera are stored in a different folder than wallpapers/other images. If you really can't download pictures from your phone I don't think it's anything Cingular did, it's just how Motorola designed the phone.

Maybe you need the Mobile Phone Tools from Motorola, but they cost $30.

I think your basic problem is you are using a MAC. <gag>

On the PC end we use a program called Motorola Phone Tools to do the transfers to the computer. I dunno if using windows emulator software would run it, but it is worth a try.

I assume you're using bluetooth. I have a Cingular 551 and two Macs with bluetooth. It works fine.

This is how:
1) Under the bluetooth menu, click "Browse Device"
2) Pick your phone and click "Browse"
3) You will see three folders, one of them being "picture." Double-click on it.
4) You should now see your photos. Highlight the ones you want and click "Get..."
5) Pick a location to store them (like the Desktop) and click Save.

That's it.

For reference, my phone is running software version: R472_G_08.18.16R_0A (to find out what version you're running, dial: *#9999#)

Cheers.

Are you running Tiger or Panther? I can see the three folders but when I double click to see the contents, the folders are empty. I can upload pictures and can see them, but I can not see photos taken with the camera nor the pictures that came with the phone. I want access to the photos taken with the phone. Any ideas?

UDATE! All is working well now. Don't know why I could not see my initial picts I took with the camera. Works seamlessly as described.
