Z500A Antenna help

I tried the search, and the FAQ section but found nothing that answers my question, so I will ask it here.
I live on a fringe area for Cingular, and use a z500a that is on the GSM network, if I stand at the top of my driveway I get a decent to good signal. However if I go fifty feet to the house the signal goes in the dumper. Short of spending a bazillion dollars on a wireless repeater/booster is there a more economical way to increase the reception to, or even inside the house. I see this "Passive Antenna" that sticks to the window of your vehicle and alleges that it will increase the reception and decrease dropped calls. Would this maybe work for me, or not. I don't want to tether my phone to a Rx cable, to me that kind of defeats the whole purpose of the "mobile" phone concept. Any help that could be offered would be appreciated, but please don't turn this simple question into an arguement about "he said she said" junk, I just hate that.
Thanks in advance,
Thumper
