I like both phones, but which one will I be happier with 2 months after I buy it?

6230, no doubt

6230 no question.

I hated the tiny and crappy display on 6230. If you can live with that, then get the 6230. Otherwise, get V551. 6230 has MP3 player, and FM radio.

The 6230 is superior in my opinion and we have both. The display is smaller but the OS is lightining fast and much easier to use. Plus you have expandable memory. The battery on the V551 is very upredictable as well and I think it takes terrible pictures (we always get an orange hue). Plus Nokia gives its PC Suite software away for free and finally I think they have worked the major bugs out. With the Moto you'll have to buy Mobile PhoneTools (I also own a copy) which is a dreadful program IMO.

As a user of both of the phones, I strongly urge you to go with the 6230b. The v551 has many of the same problems that were apparent in earlier Motorola models such as the V400. The OS is slow, the battery is very unpredictable, the camera is horrible, the keys scratch the LCD, etc. The 6230 has an awsome battery (I usually go 4-5 days without charging), a great and quick OS, BT, MP3 Player, FM Radio. Motorola Phone Tools is horrible software, its buggy and slow. Just my 2 cents

moto v551 its crap nokia 6230 w new fw 5.34 its killer phone no bugs its bullet proof

About the only thing other phones have on the 6230 is a better screen. No matter, the 6230 is still superior in every other way, though. Nokia now needs to release a 850Mhz version of the 6230i and make me even happier.

I don't know that I would agree about the 6230s battery life. While it is acceptable, with heavy use I can barely get 2 days. I charge every night to be safe. Of course I'm on the BT headset all the time. That said, the battery indicator is predictable so I have no issues there. On the V551 it will read 3 battery bars and then suddenly die! Moto claims improper battery conditioning that causes this but I still think that's rubbish. Bad design, period.

we should get a sticky for this question, as it appears to come up all the time.

but to answer your question: neither - both phones are probably mediocre. Nokia's battery life, RF, and GUI speed are vastly overrated; my V551 (with the latest firmware) gets better battery life (nor do I have the battery indicator issues mentioned in the post above) than the 6230 I used to have, and RF and GUI speed is pretty much the same. The Nokia has an awful screen and a pathetic keypad, whereas the V551 has a nice responsive keypad, beautiful screen, and is quad band (only important if you travel internationally though). The only 'regret' I have is that I do miss the PIM functionalities of the Nokia.

In the end, the phones have a very different feel and if you can, play around with both of them for a week or so to see which one you like.

I agree with the previous poster that a lot of it is personal opinion. Personally I LOVE my 6230 keypad. Don't find it wonky at all. On the other hand I think the V551's keypad feels cheap and is harder for me to use. Small screens don't really bother me, I'm interested in the overall smaller size and less weight.

I don't agree. The 6230b's OS is much quicker and more responsive than ANY Motorola phone. Probably because it is Symbian and not Java based. I do not think that the 6230 is overrated at all. It is 10x better than any Motorola phone I have ever used or owned.

And.. concerning battery life.. I am on Day 4.

I agree with mostly everything you said, but the 6230 is a series 40 phone, not a Symbian phone.

there is no way in hell that the 6230s speed is the same as ANY motorolas, it is atleast 2x faster and anyone who thinks otherwise is on drugs

6230.

I got the v551, and while it is a nice entry level handset there's some things i'm not thrilled with, which is why i'm happy I got the phone free instantly.

Dropped Calls/Call Failed
Noticeably slow
hinge creeks

I've had the phone for two weeks.
