My S710a is not working out for me. I need some(more) phone advice

I'm on my second S710a, and in general, I love it, but compared to my last one, the voice quality when in my house(and most low coverage areas too) it's choppy and to the other person it sounds like I'm in a tunnel and it cuts in and out.

Same with my second one, but a bit better, about 1 in 5 calls is better, but still unsatisfactory.

I would go with a nokia, but there aren't any 850 BT flips. I really like the camera on the S710a, as well as the fact that it plays nice with macs, but if it can't fulfil it's sole purpose I'm afraid I can't keep it.
Any suggestions? I'd like a good camera and great reception. Price for me is an object, I'd like to keep it under $300 if it's off eBay or something.

I'm looking at the V635, but don't know if I'd like it, as when I had my V600 I didn't like it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

If you don't mind Candy bar (which the S710a almost is) the Nokia 6682 is coming soon and it has a good 1.3 MP camera.

Yea, but from what I've heard the no contract is gonna be around $400 and from what I've heard BLUE NBO isn't getting it, although it does look like a great phone.

Well, you have to make a decision on what is more value: form or function. True, it would be great to have both in one package, but often that's just not the case. I'm waiting on the 6682, because I know someone who uses the 6680, so I am pretty confident about the function. I like the form too, because the one thing I have learned with candybar phones is that the lack of moving parts is a tremendous advantage over flip/clamshell or even slider phones.

I value form and function.

My 3620 is/was a great phone, but it was a little on the big side.

I'm kinda tired of S60, every phone kinda seems the same.

Arguably, but as you said, the 3620 is/was a great phone. Simply put, Nokia has better quality control than both SE and Motorola. I agree that their phones are rather boring, but they do what I want them to do. I have been through far too many piss-poor SE and Motorola phones to put too much faith into anything that's not a Nokia. Surely, Nokia had put out some crap too, but overall, I have been pleased with Nokia's offerings.

I'm tired of having to hit exit on the phone and constantly closing open apps.

I want the nokia 6270, but I know it'll probably cost me a couple limbs and even then I'll have to auction off my family members.

I hate picking phones sometimes.

I value both form and function.

I feel the same way about the N90, but unfortunately I haven't heard any plans of an American version. I am all for auctioning off some family members, though.

I can't argue with that.

Posted by: microchip13

Sorry.

Anyone know what the projected price for the 6270 is gonna be unlocked and unbranded?

I heard a rumor on some foreign mobile forum that it was going to start at 270 euros for an unlocked & unbranded model when first released. (That's around $330 US). Amazingly enough, for the first time, we can actually but this RIGHT when it's first released becuase it's quadband! woot! hurrah!

Posted by: microchip13

Wow.

If the price is that cheap I'll eat my shoe or something.

I know it's supposed to come out in the 3rd quarter.

I'm probably gonna do a tiny bit more testing on my phone, to see if it's just at my house or if it's everywhere.
The strange part is that it's when I'm moving, it's like it's having problems handing off or something.

What foreign site did you hear this on?

Posted by: microchip13

Well, I'll be getting rid of my S710a, I tried it in another low coverage area not near my house and unfortunatly I had the same problem.

I don't think trying another one will help, as I'm on my second one.

Reluctantly, I've decided to probably wait it out and use my V180 till the 6270 comes out.

Any advice? Should I hope that 3rd times the charm and try for another S710a?

Posted by: microchip13

Ok, need some more advice on what to do till the 6270.

I could get a RAZR and then when it comes out hopefully sell it for around $200 which would be good.

I could get a V551 or a 6230.

I could stick with my V180.

Posted by: mblphnlvr

I could never get used to the keypad on the RAZR, other than that it was good... And don't expect to have any better call quality with the v551 than you get with that SE.

I'm using a Nokia 6230 now and I like it quite a bit. It works well and it's pretty small in size.

Posted by: microchip13

The big thing is if I get something right now I'd want it to reasonable hold it's value until the 6270 comes out, I personally thing the 6230's price is going to keep falling.

And I don't know if I can stand the awful screen on an otherwise great phone.

Posted by: microchip13

Ok, here's what I'm thinking, get a RAZR as a temp phone, use it till the 6270 comes out, then sell it for $200(do you think I'll be able to get this out of a RAZR when the 6270 comes out?).

Thanks for all of your input, I really really value other peoples opinions.

Posted by: microchip13

No opinions?

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

just keep the s710a and sell that for 300.

Posted by: microchip13

I know, that's a given, but then it's going from there, should I keep my V180 till the 6270 comes out?

why dont you keep the s710 and save up as much as you can for the 6270

Posted by: microchip13

because my S710a doesn't really work at my house.

Thus the nokia.

Posted by: microchip13

I have the option to get a Nokia 6230 for $125, the only thing wrong with it is the speaker phone module, but looking on eBay I could get a replacement.

Is it worth it? Should I?

Posted by: microchip13

Ok, well, I would like some more advice if possible.

I looked at how much money today, and I like that amount very much, so for my phone I want to keep the price rather low.

I could get a E398 for $150 and flash it to give it 850.
I could get a V635 for around $240ish
I could get a RAZR for $200

I'm kinda leaning towards the E398 because it has the most functionality and the lowest cost.

As for the 6230, it had some water damage.

I was wondering if you still had your s710a and were looking to get rid of it if you still have it?
