Laptop + MPx220 + Dial Up?

I have an Mpx220 + data cable and a laptop with AT&T Blue service and wanted to know if there is a way to use my MPX220 as a regular modem to use dial up on the go, because of AT&T's redulious priced MMode Data plans ($80/mo for unlimited data!) My question is it possible to do that and not be charged for data? I know I couldn't with my v600, so just wondering if maybe I could with MPx because its a smart phone? Thanks

Yes and no, while you won't be charged data you will have a minute deduction. I don't know how to set up dial up networking on the MPx 220, I am guessing you need all the settings from your ISP and then create a dial up connection on your laptop using the Smartphone Wireless USB Modem (you can download it from my blog, you will find a link in the ROM how-to catigory). You will need to put in your ISP settings there. That way it will use the phone to dial the ISP (I think....I am not sure...my gut tells me that it will actually use GPRS to try to dial the number lol, but you will have to try and see) the other way is to put in your ISP settings in Dial Up Connections under Start, Settings, Data Connections, Menu, Edit Connections. I haven't tried it but you can give it a go, not sure how it will work.

I would want it to deduct from my minutes because i have 1200 regular mins and nights and weekends starting at 7, so I think I'd be ok using them

Ok well I tried it and I almost got it to work...I just have no clue what my ISP APN is.....so until I have that I won't know if it will totally work or not. Setting it up via the phone almost worked too but it gave me the "cannot complete call" error....so I don't know.

If he's dialling up to his ISP and not using MMode then there shouldn't be an APN. It should just have a number to dial for his ISP (earthlink, aol etc.), username and password. Setup as a standard modem, under network connections (assuming he's running windows). Oh yeah, a CSD connection like that will be limited to 9.6kbps or 14.4 kbps.

I just use T-zones 4.99 for unlimited GPRS access over bluetooth - I love it!

I'm interested to see if this is an option. Heck I pay $5 bucks with Orange for 1MB of GPRS.......

You have to set up the right initiation string in the properties page in device manager. I not sure what I should put there, maybe I should put the number instead of the APN or leave it blank?

If his device can be "added" as a standard modem, or standard modem over bluetooth link, then he should be able to just input the ISP phone number. Thats how mine is setup, but I don't see an option to put in an APN anyway, when configuring a dialup modem.

Dude, 5.00 for 1MB? OMG, and to think how much American consumers ****** about prices! I get unlimited for 5.00 - American consumers are whiney complainers.

I'm an American consumer myself, just the non "whiney complainer" type. I can talk smack on my own kind if I want to!
