8900 gets stuck on start-up

I have a 8900 from Verizon. It has worked well enough for the past year, but yesterday it crashed when I tried to add a phone number to a contact.

When I tried to add a number from a friend that called me, it told me that the number was already there. So I tried to get out of the contacts menu, but it was stuck or locked up or whatever you want to say. I tried every button and nothing worked. So, I removed the battery and it shut down. Big mistake I guess.

Now when I turn on my phone it gets stuck on the bootup. I get the initial Verizon banner with clouds and that is it. Nothing else. No music or anything. It stays snagged no matter what I do. The only way to turn it off is to remove the battery.

I took it to the Verizon Store and they said that there was nothing that they could do besides replacing it for $50.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions on what to do?
