I currently have the Nokia 6230 and am thinking of upgrading to the V635. How does the reception compare to the 6230? Is it worth the upgrade?

Thanks

well i would imagine the v635 is comparable to the v551 ...if that's the case, then NO, it does NOT compare to the 6230, 6620, 3595...any nokia in that matter

You must be kidding, right? Have you used a V635? I guess not. V635 gets comparable reception than 6230. In everything else, it's way better than the 6230. 6230 probably has one of the tinniest and crappiest display of any mid-end phone. V635 has a way better camera and display than the 6230. I hated the 6230's display so much that I returned it before my 15-day trial period expired. 6230 does have an FM radio that V635 does not have.

Yeah, the v635 is MUCH better all around! IMO of course!

I have a 6230, and my coworker just bought a V635. Both are incredible phones, both loaded with features. I have to admit that I prefer the 6230, but only cause I'm not a huge fan of the entire Moto interface, though I will note that Moto has fixed alot of oversights on the v635, for example you can now search through your contacts with more than one letter. As for reception I can't really comment, he hasn't had it long enough and I don't care to run any tests. The v635 looks a little more commanding, like a v180 on steroids. I think, though, with the right faceplate, the 6230 could look as good. As for the screen on the 6230, I also have a 6620 and I have no complaints on the screen. Yeah it's small, so is the phone. Yeah the resolution could be better but I'm not complaining. I guess to each his own. I'd say the two phones are about equal, just if you want a flip phone or not. (maybe more the 6230i and the v635 are equal)

I have both. Prefer to use the 6230b as my primary phone. This is not to say the V635 is bad, it's a great phone.

I have had the 6230, V635 and now have a V3. Out of those 3 phones, the V635 is the worst when it comes to RF. I work in an office where reception is unheard of, when I had my 6230, I would have 2 bars at my desk. When I had the V635, it would have no service throughout the workday. Now with my V3, I have service, but its 0-2 bars fluxuating throughout the day.

IMO, any Nokia blows away a Moto.

I agree. Unless Motorola has made some MAJOR improvements to their overall design and OS of their phones, I would stick with the Nokia. I personally have not used the V635 yet, but my past experience with Motorola V-series phones only leads me to believe that it too will be a piece of garbage.

Thank you for everyone who replied to the post. I think I willl stay with my nokia as I have not had any problems with it at all. I have had trouble with using motorola's in the past and it seems as if nokia's get better reception.

the v635 is a great phone- however the camera on the 6230 is of higher QUALITY (not resolution) than the v635- the night mode on that thing could light up a black room when a phone flash is nearly useless- the speed of the UI is amazing on the 6230 right now-

let me compare the speeds for you:

6230- 3.63 P4 with hyper threading, 512mb graphics card, 1ghz front side bus and 4gb of ram

v635- a pentium 3 on depressants

I second this quote. I purchased a V635 and used it for approximatley 2 months. I am now going to sell it, as I have gone back to my 6230. The operating software is not as user friendly, does not allow you to personalize as much as Nokia, and Motorola Phone Tools (Sync Software) absolutely SUCKS!

You cannot compare any other phone to a Nokia. Nokia is slow to catch up with technological advances, but that is only because they perfect their technology before moving on; whereas Motorola has nice, advanced perks but with those nice perks, there are several quirks.

Just got the 6230b today!

My impressions with it:

RF wise, the v635 and the 6230b are in parity with each other. The Nokia could be a winner in this department, but not by a whole lot.

UI: I don't really like the center button on the 6230b. It's going to take some getting used to. Having said that, and if you understand how a Nokia works, it's still easier to navigate than the Motorola UI. The Moto UI has improved by LEAPS AND BOUNDS, but I honestly think, no matter how close it just can't get to the simplicity of the Nokia.

Sure the 6230b has an FM tuner, but you need the headset to listen to it. Not a Bluetooth headset, a WIRED headset.

Both take expandible memory, and Transflash (Moto) is easier to find at this point than MMC (Nokia) is; but MMC is cheaper.

And, honestly, I'm not a fan of EITHER company's Outlook/Exchange sync software solution. If you want to do something like that, look at either the Audiovox 5600 or a Pocket PC (phone edition or otherwise).

A requirement on either phone: software flash. The Moto can be done at home with the right cable; the Nokia -- well, it's just probably best to mail it out to do that. Both phones' initial software was just horrible with bugs, but both have been fixed.

Camera: V635 hands down. No contest.

Screen: V635. YMMV. I personally like the 6230 screen; but the Moto's is ... well, sharper it seems. I don't know. Like I said, YMMV

Battery: My experience with the BL-5C (the Nokia battery) hasn't been a good one, but that could be because I've been tainted with the 3650 and the 6620. I also have an extended battery back from my V600 that I've surgically modified to fit the V635, giving it PHENOMINAL battery life. On equal terms, I bet they're close to the same.

Did I cover everything?

I have the 6230. My only complaint is the crappy screen. Because of this I almost bought a v635. I had the chance to play with a friend's v551. The UI drove me crazy. Thjis made me rethink the v635. I think I will just wait and get a 6270 when it is available as it solves the screen problem.

My 6230B got much better reception than I get with my current V635.

Posted by: csrx

I've experienced the same as Gunner1.

Although at times my V635 might show more signal bars than my 6230b, the nokia gets better reception than the moto.
